Odd wear pattern on Pirelli's

I had both of my rear wheels/tires off the car today to insall my BMR trailing arms and I noticed both the tires had more wear on the inside half of the tire. You could almost draw a line down the center of the tire and notice the tread depth from one side to the other. It doesn't look like the typical misaligned wheel that shows excessive wear on the inside or outside shoulder, it is half the tire.

I do a LOT of drag racing and I'm thinking it may be from the small burnouts and the wheel spin down the track. I can visualize the car squatting on launch and for the 1/4 mile run. Does it seem normal for one half of the tire to show more wear? Does this mean I need more suspension mods to get my tire planted completely flat?

I'd check the alignment.

Just a standard alignment, or a drag alignment? I don't even know where to get a drag alignment.

Id check the alignment even if you get a standard one. If you want one more oriented towards drag racing, I'd contact bmr or any of the suspension pros here and ask them their recommendation for the specs. Then I'm pretty sure you can just take it to a shop and have them set it at what you want

Your car is out of alignment and pretty bad if it's that noticeable.

Generally speaking;
- uneven wear on the inside OR the outside of the tire is most often caused by poor alignment
- uneven wear in the middle of the tire is most often caused by too much air
- uneven wear on the inside AND the outside of the tire is most often caused by not enough air.

Thanks for the input guys. I know what I gotta do. I'm almost afraid to make any changes because I'm very happy with the way the car is launching. Who knows, it might even make things better.

If it were wearing evenly you would be launching better not worse. Think about it, if its wearing unevenly your tire is contacting the ground at an angle therefore reducing contact patch and therefore traction. even wear=better traction

You have too much toe most likely.

I noticed the same inside wear on my P-Zeros when it came time to replace them. I had always thought this would only be caused by over inflation. I always keep my tires at proper cold inflation so I decided to ask Pirelli...

Website: www.pirelli.com/tyre
Subject: Center Tire Wear
Message: I have a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro with p-zeros. I religiously maintain Chevrolet's recommended inflation (checked cold) however my rear tires show more wear in the center as would be expected if they were over inflated. What would cause this abnormal wear?

Thanks.

Here is their reply...

It is not uncommon for high horsepower/torque rear wheel drive automobiles to experience this wear pattern, and therefore there is no concern regarding a potential materials or workmanship issue based on your description of the wear pattern.

However, when in doubt, we always suggest you have an authorized Pirelli dealer inspect your tires should you have any concerns regarding the structural integrity of your tires.

Attached is a PDF file of our warranty brochure which provides detailed information regarding Pirelli warranty procedures concerning the tires fitted to your Camaro.

Kindest regards,
