I don't blame him. Too many people try to scam using paypal. I've sold quite a few things on paypal, and 99.9% of the time, if someone offers to pay with paypal, it's a scam. Cash and in person is the only way to really protect yourself as a seller.

Really? I pay with paypal all the time. I never scam anyone. And those I have asked for PayPal payment have never scammed me either.... By the way how do they scam you using paypal? I always wait till the money is in my account and I transfer it to my bank account before shipping. PayPal has protections for both buyer and seller for scams....

I can see that, if you are referring to Craig's List ads specifically.
I use Paypal quite liberally across all my "hobby/interest" forums, and have never had an issue.

No, actually toning it down. I can say that EVERY single offer I have ever received with an offer to pay with paypal on Craigslist were scams. So, if I'm being realistic here, of the 30+ offers I've had, 100% of them were scams. Ebay is a different story, but you still have to be careful. Paypal is great at protecting the buyer, but the seller doesn't get quite the same protections.
Obviously not every person that offers to use paypal is scamming. That is not what I am saying. There are a great many that do though, and so as a seller, I won't bother entertaining them, and I won't ask another seller to either. My personal experience with Paypal has been terrible, so I understand anyone elses reluctance to use it.
To answer your question on how they scam, I usually get an email that goes somewhat like this...Hi, I am very interest in the "item" you have listed on Craigslist. I am fine with your asking price. I am buying your "item" as a gift for my crippled father, handicapped son, friend who is an offshore oil worker (take your pick...I've gotten them all) and I want to make this deal as fast as possible. Please email me your Paypal information, and I will transfer the funds to you immediately.

The only difference is that most of those emails come in terrible broken English, and it is the same story with the details swapped out. They transfer the funds, you send the product, they tell Paypal they never received it, Paypal pulls the funds right back out of your account, unless you are smart enough to cash it out before they can take it back, in which case, you get a bill, and you're out whatever "item" you were selling.
I know I'm not the only one with this experience, or I must have a huge target on every item I post on Craigslist.

My point...you have to be careful. So I don't blame the guy. Wasn't looking to offend you or anyone else, and I certainly wasn't looking to start an arguement.

From what I have heard Craigslist is a scammers paradise. I have never done business on it and only tried to one time. In the middle of the transaction all of a sudden the seller changed his price and shipping cost from what we had discussed. I think he probably got a better offer after we started dealing.. I just have heard too many stories about Craig's list to even bother with it. Of course eBay has their scammers too... I have only run into one since I have been dealing on there since 2004.
