Lost navigation

Anyone ever lose their navigation? My car is off the road for winter storage but I start it occasionally. I started it to back it out of the garage and was looking at the gauges and saw SE for a second then it went away and was replaced by two dashes. Once in the driveway I changed the menu to the navigation display and it had the two dashes there as well. Not worried it is under warranty but just curious if anyone experienced this?

Thanks,

Bob

Only time it happened to me I was using the navigation system driving through downtown Chicago and it kept losing the signal because of the tall buildings blocking the signal from onstar.

I don't subscribe to Onstar any longer, but I shouldn't have to to have this navigation feature work , right ?

The compass should be independent of on star

grayss2011,
I hate to say this but if you are storing your car for the winter , the worst thing to do is start it up occasionally.Doing this leaves moisture in the system and could be problematic for you down the road.
There are threads on here with proper storage procedures or speak to your dealer to get their recommended storage procedures.
re:battery
should be hooked up to trickle charger or some people disconnect battery at negative terminal in the trunk(just don't close the trunk all the way)
re:fuel
should add fuel stabilizer and top up tank
I do oil change before and after storage.
there are other things that you can do as well.

now as to your original question.Sometimes the compass needs to reset , so do a few right turns followed by left turns and should reset itself. If not there is an issue and will be covered under warranty.

My compass is stuck on "cal" and is going to be fixed under warranty after winter hibernation. This happened before winter storage and my dealer was informed and duly noted for repairs come spring.

Yup. I. Actually meant compass, not navigation,, I checked the owners manual and it said if you see three dashes (which I saw) to contact your service department. So I just went out to the garage and turned the key to the on position and the compass seems to be back , saw an S so , maybe from sitting awhile it got confused

Thanks

I don't have to store my car (thankfully) - drive it year-round in the deep south. Just curious though... I you don't even start it while it's in storage, why change the oil "before and after storage"?

That is one of the computer's features... your car is telling you to take it SOUTH.

I change it before storage as typically I was driving it.
I change it after storage since it sits about 5 months.
aren't you supposed to change the oil at certain time intervals regardless of mileage??
anyway something I do and seems to work.At the same time as the oil change(after storage and done by my dealer),I have the dealer inspect the car front to back. All fluids, belts , hoses, brakes etc. since the car sits about 5 months in storage.

Haven't heard or seen anything about this yet, until yours. The best thing to do is to get her in the dealership to address the concern.

Hmmm. I guess so. I always figured that recommendation was in leiu of keeping track of the mileage (which many people fail to do). I don't see how the oil could break down after five months of no activity, but maybe it can.

Sounds like you provide excellent maintenance for your ride. Well done, sir!

You are wasting money. Change it before storage and don't start it. No reason to change after storage too. That's just insane. Throwing away perfectly good oil.

You are probably correct, but I would have to pay to have my dealer inspect the car after storage anyway(something that I have done).Inspection costs here are usually the same price as an inspection with oil change, so basically the oil change is free.
