Question on Order Shipping/Storage
I've been reading these forums for quite sometime and it was an invaluable source when I ordered my Camaro. My dealership has been great and I plan on asking them the same questions but I was hoping to get information from an impartial outside source. I'f a dealer or someone else has some suggestions or answers regarding my situation it would be greatly appreciated.
I placed an order in May for a Camaro before returning from Iraq, but I went through a stateside dealer because I'm currently stationed in Germany, and the new car exchange on base will only sell GM vehicles. I am going to be moving back to the states in September-October timeframe. I was told at the time that with the current allocations the dealer had I wouldn't see my order until September, which would work out great because I'd just take delivery of it during my move. However, I got a message that my car had already been built and the dealer should have it next week. While that's great news it does kind of throw my plans off. As far as I can tell I have two options: Have the dealer hold onto the car until September. I'm not even sure how this would work. Does a dealership typically leave the car in the showroom, so I should expect it to be used during those months? Is there a special lot for storing vehicles at dealerships where I wouldn't have to worry about their customers breaking something? I could pay to have the car shipped to Germany. While it would be kind of a waste to pay to have it here only for a few months it's pretty hard to resist the urge of driving it on the autobahn The dealership is in Maine, I imagine the car would be shipped to Boston, then from Boston to Germany. Could one company handle the entire process? Can anyone recommend a respectable and fast overseas shipping company to deal with? Thanks for the help! |

Isn't there anyone you could store it with, like your folks. You may have to modifiy it for german/european roads. Even if your folks aren't close to the dealer I'm sure it would cost less to ship it to them then Germany. I doubt the dealer would want to hold, at least for free, it since they probably have it on their floor inventory and paying interest until you pay for it.

Not to mention, if you leave it at the dealer (especially if it's in the showroom), they will get tons of offers for it... many over MSRP... so there is a possibility it could get sold right out from under you...
I'd say have someone you know go pick it up and store it for you. Or, do like one of my friends did, buy a plane ticket and come pick up your car, take it home and put it in the garage, then fly back... haha
