Lightbulb Metra 99-3010s Kit w/Aftermarket Amp.

Hello all,

I am sorry if this is a repeat of another thread, but I searched before hand when I was looking for answers with no luck so here goes..

I was looking for answers about the Metra 99-3010s kit pertaining to the integration of an aftermarket amplifier and how it would work with the On-Star functions. I actually took the time to call Metra and ask them and they instructed me to cut the harness of my new $250 kit (I will get to the details later). Long story short, do not cut any of your wires. I was able to install the kit with no cutting, and retain On-Star as well as the Integrated Hands Free calling.

The instructions for the kit do not include any directions to install the device if you have an aftermarket amplifier, only if you are swapping out the head units. On the device, there is a 16 pin harness that contains your Front L/R speaker leads (White/Grey). Off of the main harness that connects into the GM harness, you will find your Rear speakers (Green/Purple).

Run the RCA cords as normal from the back of your new head unit as normal and connect them to the amp, then the speaker wires that connect to your amp need to be run right into the Metra wiring as described above. This will ensure that your front speaker leads are being fed through the Onstar device.

When you call Metra, they will tell you to cut the white/grey wires between the GM harness and the AXXESS (on star) module and (GET THIS) add a 5th speaker for Onstar. I am sorry, I thought they were nuts and maybe I missed something, but my system sounds great and works just like factory in terms of the Onstar features. Whenever Onstar or the Handsfree is activated, it mutes the radio and the Onstar voice is fed through the Drivers side front speaker.

Hope this helps someone out. I just got done with the install, so if anyone has a question, I will be happy to help. Again, sorry if this has already been discussed.
