Paint not up to Par

I was in a dealership yesterday looking at 2 new camaros and noticed something that really makes me wonder. There was a Rally Yellow 2SS and a Black 2SS in the showroom with sold tags on them. The problem that I noticed was the paint. The yellow car had some orange peel on it but nothing like the black car. It was so bad I can't believe gm would let this go out like that. It actually looked like craders in the paint. It was very smooth to the touch but looked terrible. Any one else notice some of this?????

There has been some, but the paint in my car is every bit as smooth as Bonnies Lexus. It's a mass produced vehicle. These things will happen. I've seen BMWs with orange peel. Some are worse than others.

Orange peel on black cars seems to stand out more then any other color. Usually seen on the doors and such. Pretty normal for all production cars imho. My suggestion is to get over it.

This is why I'll wait until 2010 when there can be some cars on the dealer's lot...so I can inspect the car before I pay my 30K.

I don't have my Camaro yet but I'm over it already.

I can relate to the BMW cause my 07 was pitch black and it did in fact have orange peel

I have noticed that some Camaro bodies tend to have a lot more of the wrinkles in the steel.

But it's not the paint. It's the base material where the flaw lies. Some of the body metal is like glass. Some is like orange peel. The paint is just showing you the flaw of the base material.

No, sorry, but you have it just opposite.
Orange peel gets taken out by wet sanding the clear before its done curing.

If you have wrinkles in the steel, you have more serious problems than paint.
Go talk/call to your local custom paint shop.

But as others have said, it's what is unfortuntaly almost expected in today cars of all makes. Unless you have gone to some car shows, you have probably never seen what awesome paint looks like.

My wife's 535i is a beautiful machine with a special order color, it has orange peel. Ferraris have orange peel too.

that is why I laugh at NCRS Corvettes with 15k paint jobs on them at car shows. These are not what came on the car originally. Production paint is imperfect .........period
