Any 427 LS3 guys running a TVS or Whipple setup? *Update* ECS Ysi
Just trying to get a plan going for the end of the year. The car just got off the dyno and put down some decent numbers for an N/A car. I would like to put a blower on it this fall and am wondering what the outcome for everyone else was.
Motor is a forged TSP LS3 427 stroker, 238/248,CnC'd heads, Fast 102 with a NW 102 TB and American Racing header. Put down 516/496 to the tires. I wouldnt want to go any more than 8psi on a conservative tune. At the end of the day she will see more street time than track and want the tune to reflect that. 7April2013 Update Been going back and forth with Nick and Straightline Performance for the last few weeks trying to get a setup nailed down. With his help and many phone calls, I think weve got it. As of now, here is how it should sit within the next 6 weeks. UPDATE 24April2013 Just got off the phone with Chris@ECS. YSI kit is ordered, should be at Straighline in a couple of weeks. Going to call Matt@FPS and get the meth kit, gauges, booster pump and a set of ID1000's ordered and sent to Straightline as well. Im hoping that everything will be installed in about a month. I should have some dyno video up by then. Thanks to everyone for the help. Last edited by SERVED_USMC; 04-24-2013 at 05:02 PM. |

427 is alot of motor for the smaller blowers and you will want to swap out cams for a blower cam

With bigger ci it requires alot more blower to move that much air. For what you are looking for it will probably be fine. Your compression is pretty high as well but running on lower boost will be a little easier on the motor as well.

On my LSX 427, my D1SC is too small for this motor and lots of belt slip at 5300rpm. I managed to get about 11 or so psi out of it but i need more CFM to get me to my goal. Twin Turbos here i come! I think your cam will be fine, just not optimized...Contact Pat Guerra and he can spec you out a cam based on what you plan to run and your eventual goals

I was told by a few builders that taking the LS3 to 427 the cylinder walls would be to thin for boost. I can not confirm this just what I was told when looking into it.. Might want to call TSP and ask them.

ETA: He did say I could push it a few psi more, but couldnt guarantee that it would have the longevity of only run 10 or less. After that discussion I figured that 8psi would be a very safe number to shoot for. |

If you look at the texas speed motors. They hone the walls only to 4.07" but stroke it up to 4.125" So no issues with cylinder walls. Basically same bore as a 416 cube. I dont know the ramifications of running the stroke all the way up to 4.125 however

The stroked 427's are not as problematic now as they were when they were first introduced. The piston skirts used to not be suitable for such a long stroke. Since then, most companies have redesigned, or changed, their pistons with a longer skirt to accommodate the 4.125" stoke of the 427 kits. He also said most of the problems that are talked about with the 427's came about long before the problems were addressed, but are still spoken about as if they are still a common problem. Again, he was speaking for TSP and not another builder. |

I thought it only took 4.100 with that bore to get 427? I thought the 4.125 was closer to 440?

4.125" stroke honed out to 4.07" is 429 CI, this is how the website describes it. For the 427 it is 4.07" bore stroked to 4.1"
