Window Tint Question

So the '12 owners manual states:

"Notice: Do not apply aftermarket glass tinting with metallic film. The metallic film in some tinting materials will interfere with or distort the incoming radio reception. Any damage caused to your backglass antenna due to metallic tinting materials will not be covered by the vehicle warranty."

I'm a tint noob, but I thought metallic tints were the better quality tints that don't turn purple over time. Anyone have issues with their antenna and their window tint?

Nope. I had a 2002 Cadillac Seville with mirror (metallic) tint and it did not interfere with my radio reception at all during the 5 years I owned it(and yes, the FM antenna was in the back glass). I am actually getting the Camaro mirror tinted tomorrow so I will let you know how the Camaro handles it.

And also, who listens to commercials, I mean...radio, anyway?

I've heard people on both sides of the fence on this one. Some will say they put metallic tint on and it completely ruined their reception, others will say it had no effect. I have metallic tint and have on several cars with absolutely no change in radio reception.

Just go with ceramic if you are worried. You get a lifetime warranty with that kind of tint anyways.

the metallic film interferes mostly with AM reception. so if you plan on going to the dealer and complaining about not picking up am then avoid that.
ceramic is THE way to go for ting. superior film, superior heat protection etc.
let us know how it goes.

the ceramic tint is the good stuff, it's the best you can get these days and will not turn purple. It's supposed to reduce more heat and isn't supposed to affect any reception, cell phone or radio. Most good metallic tint won't turn, either, it's the dyed film that fades, and that's the really cheap stuff. The metallic film could interefere if you aren't in a good signal strength area, but in town you should be good.

Thanks everyone for the responses. Most of the time I listen to my ipod, but like the radio for sports and occasional talk radio.
I'll look into the ceramic tint when I do it. Not sure how soon that will be, but I appreciate the info.
