This is why you will see many warnings not to use fram, they are terrible. Change filter brand ASAP. Mobil1, Wix, AC Delco, K&N to name a few to use.

A couple decades ago Fram was alright. Now they are crap. Quit using them 8 years ago when I was having rough starts in vehicles with Fram filters. Change filter brands - no problems.

Wix, AC Delco, Amsoil, K&N, and Mobil are all good. I put my money in Amsoil and have been very happy with both the filters and the oil.

Hi,
I work for FRAM. You are trashing FRAM and your not even sure if it is a FRAM filter? Cartridge filters must be carefully installed to avoid the problem you describe.
Do you like AC Delco filters? We make those as well. If you need help, we have many cartridge oil filter installation videos on our website.
If the filter is made by FRAM, it will say so right on the plastic top, how about a picture?

Well then, I'm glad I found this thread. I've never heard these things about fram and I've used fram on my sunfire for years and never had an issue. Must not be a good filter for a performance vehicle I'm assuming. Guess I wont be using them on my Camaro

Tyler,
First off all, FRAM makes the OE filter for AC Delco, do you honestly think that "some guys on the internet" know more than GM what is good for your engine? Secondly, FRAM is the only company making a full synthetic (ULTRA Synthetic oil filter)made in the USA filter for your car, nobody else does.
Third, the poster isn't even sure the filter he is whining about is a FRAM filter. Watch the videos, learn about filtration and then make your choice.

Fram is garbage, They use cardboard endcaps which can easily leak and cheap bypass valves which are known to stick open. The internal paper Filter in general is adequate for fram, but frams quality control has been an issue for a long time.

please use this as a reference when choosing a proper oil filter.

My oil filter of choice is purolator; proven basic oil filter.

You my friend are misguided at best. AC Delco uses felt end caps, Nissan uses fiber end caps, Honda uses them, Subaru uses them, Mann and Hummel use them or no end caps at all, Toyota uses no end caps, just glue to seal the media. Our bypass valves are routinely tested to one million cycles.
Have a great day
