Body issue - WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
Ok I mentioned in my post when i got the car (and I noticed some others here) have had an issue with the side skirt not lining up properly on the car, it kinda looks like it hanging off. Mine was, and when my car went back to be striped they removed the side skirt and attempted to fix it.
The fix didn't work the dealership told me they did the best that they could and it looks better but its not right so they ordered a new piece which they will need my car for 2 days as it will be sent to a body shop to be painted and installed. Mind you they took it upon themselves to set all this up, I hadn't seen their work, but once I did I thought, do I REALLY want to go through all that, because this is what it looks like after they were done: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() My issue is this, what if the new piece looks and fits no better? Worse what if the paint doesn't match perfect? Plus in my experience my car will be covered in shit and I just spent a weekend waxing and cleaning it. The possibility for damage to other things paint wise is high - overspray , etc (as you can maybe tell I have trust issues with shops). I mean it really looks almost fine now (it was pretty bad before almost hanging off on both ends), most people wouldn't even notice if I didn't point it out. I am pretty sure what I am gonna do in this situation, but I wanted to get a consensus here, leave it as is, or get it fixed?

I say fix it, because if you don't then you'll be kicking yourself for it later on. Anyways, even if they do mess up then they are the responsible ones. It's not like it's coming out of your pocket.

It'll ultimately be your decision, and you have to decide on what course of action will bring you "peace of mind".
I've had work done by my dealer after there was a TSB issued for a problem, and the body shop did an excellent job. So, if I were you, I'd talk to them in person and tell them your concerns. I am betting they will do their best to make you happy. And remember, document everything in the event that the fix is not satisfactory. As for any work, ie; polishing you've done, yes, you'll probably want to wash and polish the car once you get it back. But I seriously doubt the dealer will cause any damage to the work you've already done. ![]() Decide if its worth it. If it is, visit the dealer, talk to the Mgr. of the bodyshop, and I'm confident that they'll do their best to make you happy. |

Im not concerned about paying for it, I am concerned about it NEVER looking right... I honestly can barely see it.

Even though its very minor, IMO, you know its there. Also, as for matching the paint; the paint is still very new, so I seriously doubt they will have trouble with it not looking right.

The dealer has been great, I mean they were the ones that decided this is not acceptable and ordered the part, made the arrangements, and are giving me a rental (on their dime not GMs) so they are good about it. Maybe I'm just worried since Ive never had a new car like this before.

I would leave it. I agree with you, unless you have someone who you trust and is an artist with body work you may end up worse than before. Just recently I sent my Toyota in for body work and I have to tell you I can not get the smell some dirty individual left in the car. Not only that they left greasy black fingerprints in the headliner. My two cents.

But it really sounds like the dealer is doing right by you. AS for "dust everywhere", welcome to the 'Black car owners club". ![]() ![]() It'll be OK. |

They also gave me the option of having the part painted at the shop and then the dealer installing it but they said they can't guarantee the color is gonna match so they would prefer the body shop to have the car and color match it. They are definitely doing right by me....

I voted to leave it alone because you asked 'what would you do' and that's what I would do if it were mine. I'm more focused on performance when it comes to mine.
However, the fact you ask the question tells me you should let them try and fix it. It's not bad but it bothers you and they've offered. |

I think the panel just need to be taken off and put back on. There is some kind of tab that slides into something.. I think.. and it looks like it was forced on.

are you gonna park the car all winter? If not then i'd get it fixed, cause it looks like somewhere for salt to creep in there, then possible corrosion in the future.
