So this is changed? You only paint the outside now?

That's a shame. You'd be able to attract a massive market if you could manufacture them as 100% transparent from the start like how the factory does so they can be painted on the inside to make it look OEM.

What's it matter if they are painted on the inside or not the damn color is the same? Leave the guy alone and stop downing him. He has so much time and money invested. It's a shame you would say that

Driving a 1LT, when were you able to really get a good look at the OEM ambient lighting panels? They're a transparent polycarbonate mold with a subtle texture grain on the side facing away from you while it is completely smooth on the side facing you when installed. They're painted on the inside for three reasons:

• The thick layer of clear plastic separating the paint on the inside and the viewer provides a very unique "magnified", deep acrylic-glass look that cannot be achieved if it's just painted over the front. This look is especially nice w/ metallics.

• The smooth plastic outside is not painted, meaning there's no risk of scratching the paint since the paint is on the inside.

• And the main reason that GM probably made them that way is that the thick layer of clear plastic helps the ambient lighting disperse out more.

I understand it's probably cost prohibitive for RPI to make these in clear polycarbonate. If it is ever in the cards, though, I'm sure they'd sell a ton since trying to strip the paint off the back of the factory ABL panels is very risky and difficult. I'd know.

Hello,

I am sorry if this Q has been asked before, but I want to know if it is possible that I can have the ABL ones working on my 1LT/RS? And is it going to be plug and play or do I have to do extra work to make it fit and work?

Thanks.

Which one is it?

Seems a little contradictory in statements. Either they are GM pieces or they are your own parts made to GM specs.

It's not contrary at all, he said the DASH pieces are GM pieces.

These door ABL panels are pieces they make.

He and the person he was replying to were speaking of the door panels fitting in the door panel opening.
They are talking about two different products. It would be difficult to remake the dash pieces, if you take them off you will see why, alignment etc. would be difficult for someone other than the GM parts supplier. IMO. The door panels on the other hand just have to match the shape and screw into the factory locations. Easy to do.

In order to get the ABL to shine through the dash pieces you just leave a tiny gap for the line to shine out of the top. The door panels on the other hand, actually shine through the panel.

I hope that clears up.

I need contact from someone at RPI please...

Ive sent a PM, email and been calling today several times, just leaving VM's.

I made an order last night around 11pm on the door and dash inserts and need to change it to the ABL ones, or have my old order canceled so I can reorder the correct ones....

Please PM me so we can see which is the best route. I'm trying to get this done before the paint order goes through.

Please contact me before starting, Im debating canceling through Paypal as communication is sketchy at best. another day of no answer to emails, and noone answering the phone (even though it says open monday-friday) and no returning my numerous voice mails.

Starting to wonder how hard it will be to resolve problems if this isn't sent right....I mean if they wont talk to you at the beginning, how hard will it be getting them to talk to you if you have a problem later that needs fixing?
