It is a law here in Tennessee also,
but learned the rule a long time ago. My father drove a tractor trailer all his life.

A friend of mine got a $300 ticket in Kansas for it.

Thanks for bringing this to everyone's attention. I can't speak for Law Enforcement but the fire service has resorted to lane closures or completely shutting roads down when we're working. It definitely makes the scene more safe but we can always use the public's help.

I've always done it out of courtesy whether it was law or not, including funerals out of sign of respect.

I appreciate the awareness post. Let's not forget about the others who are simply trying to do maintenance on highways (I.E. tire changing due to a flat) from emergency maintenance and other unsheduled maintenance/emergency. Law enforcement is one thing but other Americans let's not forget about them.

$200-300 seems too low considering you're putting someone's life at risk. People just pay the fine and do the same thing over again and don't learn. I think it should be a 2 week or 1-month license suspension.

As a long time LEO Thanks for the post and the responses. I don't know how many times I've seen my life pass in front of face on a traffic stop or a traffic assist. Nights are the worse. I'm so glad God looks after fools and children and I ain't no child.

Common sense!!! It's a shame that our country lacks this. It's more of a shame that we have to pass laws to try and reach the puplic attention..

Again common sense you do not own the road and nobody is trying to beat you to the light, off ramp, ect..

Thanks for the post Scott..

I do this for ANY vehicle on the side of the road, law enforcement, DOT, stranded motorist driving inferior (Non-GM) vehicles .

Thanks for the reminder though Scott.

Another thing I heard a few years ago is when you have cars on the side of the road and can not move over , Do not stare at the cars on the side , what tends to happen is if you focus only on that you start to angle towards what you are looking at ,

Police are enforcing this law more strictly as of late, I put up a thread about it on my Camaro Club page just to give everybody a heads up. An officer will let the person he just pulled over go and chase you down if you don't yield or slow to a safe speed if you can't change lanes.

Be alert and give the guy on the side of the road some room or at least slow the hell down.
Right! I'm a telephone lineman and put up with this same stuff. Also everyone is texting and on the phone while driving. Makes highway jobs dangerous.
