Camaro ZL1 Roto-Fab CAI Testing by Torq - Video

This weekend we tested the new Roto-Fab Camaro ZL1 Cold Air Intake on a bone stock, automatic 2013 ZL1. This was a great opportunity to see exactly what gains we could see with the intake only!

The intake is a no-tune required intake, however it would benefit largely from a tune after looking at the A/F, especially in the bottom end.

Besides looking killer, the sound of of the blower is MUCH louder and whines really nice now!

We saw a peak of 13rwhp and 7 rwtq gain, gaining power from about 3500rpm and up. For proper comparison sake, both runs were "hot" runs so the gains would be accurate. 2nd run stock and 1st run with intake (cold run) yielded a bigger gain but more so due to temperature than intake itself.

Great bang for the buck, especially with no tune required!

Have any questions? Post away!

/Erik

I ordered mine last week from a site sponsor, love the blower whine and can't wait to get it put on

This may be off topic but it looks like GM now includes BLACK wheel lugs on all the 2013 models with the factory black wheels? That's cool even though I ended up with the Gorilla wheel locks in Black, I probably would've saved the $$ if GM didn't put the silver ones on there in the 1st place

When did that happen? I have a 2013 and it was sold with chrome lugs. I did buy the Gorilla lug nuts in black also. I do like the added security of having them on the car. Plus they accent the look of the black wheels.

Looks like Roto-Fab is the way to go, I really like the look of the carbon fiber one...are there any alternatives that I'm somehow missing on the forums that put out better numbers?

So what's with all the torque lost below 3600 rpm? I didn't notice any significant change in low end AFR after I installed my Rotofab.

Airaid is another awesome unit! But that one does require a tune 100%. For the non tune required Roto-Fab seems to be one of the best bets, we have seen more from the Airaid but again that was with a tune as well.

They are both very high quality kits, and I am confident you would be very happy with whichever one you went with!

Personally I went with the Airaid on my 840hp ZL1 and loved the way it looked and the quality and performance of it.

It's very minor, but I don't have access to a log from that specific run so I can't say what was different in A/F, or anything else for that matter.

2013 ZL1. Made the Roto-Fab no tune CAI my first performance mod. But I have a question? What's up with the decreased torque from dead stop? I felt w/ the stock air box my ZL1 had plenty of low end torque and felt like it launched much faster from dead stop w/ traction control off. After the conversion to the Roto-Fab intake; I feel a loss in low end torque, and it seems like it is launching slower. The power feels absent from a dead stop launch. Do all ZL1s with this mod really require no tune?? I'm having some doubts, can someone tell me what's possibly wrong or is this normally what everyone's experiencing? On a positive note i do like the more noticeable super charged noise coming from the intake.

i'm curious as well to this answer. also what about just the factory airbox with a k&n filter addition? does it add any hp and if so how much while retaining the factory airbox setup.
