Non factory tweeter location
Has anyone moved their tweeters into the door like this. This is what JL says is ideal. ".As a general rule, the tweeters should be placed relatively close to the woofers for best tonal balance and most coherent imaging(the closer, the better).Any separation greater than 8inches(20cm) is likely to result in degraded sound quality."

I havent yet, but plan on doing so whenever the rain stops here. My tweeters are larger than the tweeter pods at the top of the door panels so im going to move them down there, but the only issue is that the steering column is so big it will reflect alot of the sound towards the passenger side of car. So i may just velcro them in place to test them for a bit first.

In theory.. Yes. But then you start talking about nitpicky things like phase seperation/alignment and polar tilt and blah blah etc.
In reality for a normal system .. Not really. The further away the speakers are from each other you will hear some separation (some sounds coming from different spots) If you're worried about it, instead of cutting a hole in your doors for the tweeters, use a strip of metal and make a bridge over the mid speaker to mount the tweeter behind the factory grille. (Basically making a seperated coax speaker) just make sure it's mounted solidly and you leave room for the mids excursion.

My tweeters are in the door above the window switches facing up and rearward. Works and sounds great. They are 2" so wouldn't fit in the factory pods.
