160 not opening?

Put in a new thermostat and it never opened. Is there a trick?

One mistake I see people make is they assume their car should run at 160 with the T-stat. 160 is the temp it opens at..not the temp it holds the car at. Normally a 160 stat will have the car run 10-15 degrees cooler...like 200-210 range if I remember right.

Otherwise make sure the system is bled right.

Thermostat opens around 160 but the fans control the actual coolant temp. Mine are in the 190s while idle

^^^ no such thing, it's a biach burping it on these cars. It took me a few times to get it right seeing high temps then turning the heater on high then adding more coolant and squeezing the hoses to move the coolant until it finally burped. I think I must have shut it down like 3 times. I was pissed lol. This was back in 2010 so there were no writeups lol

Yep, do this. Big pita. I had issues after doing heater hose relocation. Got to 230+ a few times. Left the rad cap off in order to top off as it burped. When it would burp, it splashed everywhere. All over my new CAI and the fans blew coolant all over the engine and bay. Was hating myself, thought I did something wrong. May want to add some water wetter as well at this time.

It really sounds like a bleed issue. You can actually test it by putting in a boiling pot of water.

The 2010+ Camaros are not hard to get to bleed but most people do not get the upper hose full. Squeezing it while refilling the coolant does the trick.
