Decel pop - magnaflow 16580
I recently put on the magnaflow 16580 cat back exhaust to my otherwise stock 2010 SS.
I like the sound but I am not real happy about the decel pop(not sure if that's the right term). I know a lot of people like that sound but to me it sounds like the car is not tuned right! Eventually I will do long tube headers and high flow cats. My question is once I do the headers will the decel pop go away or is that something that has to be tuned out? Or is it just this particular cat back system and its always going to be like that? I am also not a fan of the drone at highway speeds! Will that get worse once I add headers and HF cats? |

There is a cure I have heard with a tune. I hate my decel pop too. It sounds like the car is broken imo.

Its a normal side effect when you change out the mufflers. I even have the Decel Pop. Its like someone is making popcorn while I slow down. But i just love the sound

Any change to the exhaust will cause tone, drone changes. Magnaflows have a pretty deep tone to them as is and also have decel pop on the M6 or in the A6 while using paddles and downshifting.
Headers & HF's will cause the lows to be even deeper but, the high RPM's will be quite different and very loud and raspy. If i roll my windows down and stand on it my ears ring lol. I do however do not have much drone. I have SW LT's, catless mids and the Magnaflow 3" Comp catback. (the no cats increases the rasp but all Magnaflows have some rasp) |

Decel pop can be tamed a little with losing your DFCO. It will cost you about 2-3mpg. I have tuned off my DFCO and I still get some pop. Learn to embrace it.

Quote:
Deceleration Fuel Cut Off which means 0 fuel, If you lose it, or turn DFCO off you will have more gas making its way to the exhaust. You can change the tables to make it enter DFCO faster to reduce the "popping". It wont affect your milage unless you turn it off or prevent the car from entering DFCO then you might see a negative effect. |

I had decel pop even with my stock exhaust. I have a Borla Atak cat back, and the pop sounds amazing to me
