High rpm engines are not fun on the street and they are almost always a lazy pain in the ass down low with the required cam to make it rev.

The guy who built the 500cid ERL superdeck motor....he's smart.
I see the op is an automatic, I should read more carefully, I always assume everyone is ls3. Sorry bout that. I paid a lot of money to shift at 6900. Lol.

The trans will give you trouble earlier if you shift over 6500. That is the max they are rated for.

I agree the tune is important, as is the power been put through the trans. High HP and high rpms together are an issue.

My shittt tuner set my rev limiter at 7500 then I went to my all new reliable tuner and said that was pushing the rods and pistons of the engine and moved it back to 6800

7500 is high for that cam. I assume peak was around 6400-6600?

7500 is high for any ls3 stock bottom end.

They call it "grenading" because it usually starts by pulling out the pin.

Yeah 7500 is real high, but these motors are tougher than most think they are.

I always figured the valvetrain would be the first to fail on a street pushrod motor. Kinda neat that it'll keep up with 7000+. It must be lighter than i thought it was.

hehe right they are, but for how long?
If you dont mind fixing one, nuff said.

If you're a kid on a limited budget and can't, probably shouldnt go there.

The engines I build for my amusement are rebuilt usually in the first 20-30k miles. Even with high quality parts and machine work, the bores scuff, the rings give up, and sometimes you find things that scare you like a broken cap, or cracked cylinder. Once you start pushing things, shit can and will happen.
