Rate That Mod Day 11: SW Retro Chambered Catback

Alright! Here we are again for another day of Rate the Mod! The Scores So far!

Anvil Notched Spoiler 9.21
Muffler Delete (V8) 8.29
Terminator CF Hood 3.89
Razzi Body Kit 2.30
Kooks LT Headers 9.47
NS-1 Stripe Package 7.46
Cold Air Inductions Intake 9.59
Plasti - Dip 8.15
MRT v2 9.38
ZL1 Bumper Swap 8.39

Not to bad for the ZL1 Bumper Swap! Now for today's mod. The Stainless Works Retro Chambered Catback. IMO this is one of the best sounding Catbacks available for our vehicles Great deep muscle car sound at a fairly good price! My personal score is 9/10!

I also want to say that when applicable I will try to use pictures and videos to represent the mods in question just to give people an idea of what the mod is like if they do not already know. I pull these at random either from Google, YouTube or even this website. If you find that I have used something you submitted and want me to take it down please let me know and I will immediately!

If you have any suggestions on what you would want to see next on Rate That Mod please let me know and send me a PM!

This is a mod I'm considering but have a few questions for those in the know:

Is self-installation easy?
Is there any performance boost, or just sound (seems the absence of mufflers would improve exhaust efficiency)?
What about cruising speed drone - any?

Price seems a little high for a couple of pieces of pipe. I'll give it a 8/10 if it lacks the aggravating drone that some systems produce.

honestly, this sounds almost exactly like the muffler delete I did on my SS, that can be done for $80-$120. Going to have to give it a 0/10.

1. Self install is easy if you have a decent amount of clearance underneath (provided by a lift or jack stands). It is the same as other catbacks.

2. No performance boost since the stock exhaust flows very well. It just sounds like shit. If you combine it with headers you will get a decent gain.

3. SW claims that there isn't any drone, and I trust a name like SW.

4. The price is very good compared to similar setups from Borla or Corsa.

5. Only an 8/10

Palms, I went with this after two years of stock ones...Self-install, I wouldn't exactly call it easy, but I removed my stock ones intact, and put in the cat-back...Couple of snags, the stock was hard to get off, then finally removed the diffuser, that was a pain...gotta mess with the chassis brace clearance as well...It's do-able, just take your time and don't get impatient...
...Never looked at performance boost...I guess maybe...that comes more with the headers and hi-flow cats, then tune,....blah, blah, blah....didn't want to go that route...

Absolutely no cruising drone...that's why I never went with anything else before....Other guys I knew had other makes, and the sound was ok, but they were always fighting the drone, switching things around, changing brands, etc....I've yet to see a thread or post complaining about drone on these...Even without going headers, hi-flow cats, the sound is fantastic...I love it...

...Maybe it was pricey, but at least I know I won't be doing it over again trying another system...

OP: definite 10/10

As I did mine myself, I didn't want to cut up the stock one to remove it or change it around...There are 4 tube sections that have baffles/chambers, and the diameter is increased, that makes for a sound that's not quite the same as muffler delete imo...

It does sound pretty similar. Is there any drone with the muffler delete?

It does seem to sound fairly similar to a muffler delete. Which by the looks of it, that's pretty much what it is. Either one is going to make a difference depending on if you have LT headers or not.

With my muffler delete setup (I no longer have that setup), I did have some slight drone in the 1800-2000 RPM range. Wasn't that big a deal to me. Either let off the gas a little or give it more. Either way it would be gone.

Decel popping was definitely increased. If you like that then you'll be golden. If not (like me) you can learn to drive around it be pushing in the clutch earlier or giving it slight gas pedal.

Here is some videos I did with mine. Look at post #56. This is with the resonated X-pipe. If you want it slightly louder you could go with the Tru-X pipe but my guess is it will give you a little more drone.

Personally, I really love my current setup of LT headers and Magnaflow 3" (16483). I wouldn't want it any quieter though and if I was about 20 yrs younger it would probably be too quiet. This setup should be put on the "Rate the Mod" list.

I really like the Stainless Works retro chambered catback as well. Sounds great especially to those who like a louder exhaust system.

9.5/10

Best regards,
