Clutch pedal on the floor

My 2012 SS LS3 with ARH headers, Solo performance exhaust, Roto-Fab cold air intake, turned 13.68 last year at the drag strip. Ran 3 different days. Have 8,000 miles on car.

Last night went again. First time up the clutch pedal went to the floor and stayed there. Had to lift it manually. Clutch smell very strong. Car seemed to run all right. Best time after this was 14.70. Clutch seemed to operate properly. Afraid to run it hard

Oil changed just before I went and checked the master cylinder. The brake fluid did not seem cloudy. The fluid after racing again did not seem cloudy.

What is wrong? Should I change brake fluid?

Well known issue. Changing the fluid would help, but I believe Ideal Garage has the fix with increasing the size of the clutch master cylinder.

I swapped my factory clutch for an ACT and the problem did not go away. A buddy went with a McCloud RXT and hasn't had an issue with it where the clutch is designed to only require the bearing to move a very small distance during shifts.

I had to swap out my slave cylinder to get the issue to go away. RAM clutches makes a nice billet piece to replace the factory plastic crap.

did I turn on launch control? If I did, how can I keep from turning it on in the future?

To turn launch control on you hold the T/C button for 7 (ish) seconds.

I have this issue every once in a while. Happened every time I went to the track till I started changing the clutch fluid every time I went go the track. After about 10-15 hard passes it will start to act up again then I change it again and I'm golden. But idealG does have a clutch master cylinder that has fixed the problem. I just have yet to buy and install one lol.

Doesn't that just put you into competitive driving mode though?

Did a search....this is the most recent thread I found about this Competitive Mode and this is how I understand it...Just read the fabulous owner's manual for the '11 Manual Trans...

....It can be confusing, so I made my own Cliff's Notes...lol...

T/C off only...Press and release button once...T/C off light will show on dash...

T/C and Stabilitrak off...(Must turn off T/C to turn off Stabilitrak, and this is NOT Competitive Mode)...Press and hold button for approximately 7 seconds or until both T/C and Stabilitrak off lights show on dash...
This is what I believe is commonly referred to as turning off the "nannies".

Competitive Mode....(Can be used for track courses, other than dead stop launches, it changes t/c and stabilitrak parameters, if desired)...Press button quickly two times..(Double-Tap)..."STABILITRAK COMPETITIVE MODE" will display on the DIC...

The LAUNCH CONTROL is a feature within Competitive Mode....Turn on Competitive Mode as described above. For Launch Control to function, you must be:

1. In Competitive Mode.
2. Vehicle not moving.
3. Steering wheel pointed straight.
4. Clutch pedal fully depressed.
5. In first gear.
6. Accelerator wide open.
7. Smooth, quick release of clutch pedal.
8. Maintain fully pressed accelerator.

Tried CompMode from a dead stop, not going for the full tilt launch and the pedal did stick to the floor. Perhaps because I wasn't at full throttle, is why...dunno...Never tried it on any 1/4 mile runs. (And from what I've been seeing, may never try it...lol...) Maybe it's ok if you do items 1-7 above perfectly...but not sure...

Just thought I'd put it out there...Think I'm gonna stick to just taking off t/c for the drags, and take off t/c and stabilitrak for auto-x, and not bother with CompMode/Launch Control....

Launch control just scares me. Think about it, reving to 4.5K and letting out on the clutch. To me that just says massive shock sent to the drive train. Highest RPM launch I ever did and it was once was 2Krpm and it left rubber all the way thru 1st and more in second.

I feel the same...supposedly the computer optimizes engine rpm, wheel speed and spin, etc....but even just that one time I tried it, wasn't even at that high of an rpm, I could smell the clutch...lol...Think I'll stay away from Launch Control as well....

Happened to mine several times on my SS. If you don't feel like going through the clutch master cylinder or other repairs for this problem, you can put a lingenfelter clutch return spring on. Mounts right on the clutch pedal arm in the car and costs around 80 bucks. Solved the problem 100% on mine and was simple.
