If you want to do this, do it like a man - take it to the track. Twice a year the Mid-West F-Body Association rents Road America in Elkhart Lake Wis. I suggest you buy a helmet, pay the $350 registration fee and do it on the track Here's a few "inspirational" photo's for you if you plan on doing this the right way. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I want to do Silverstate Challenge in my Camaro. Now that I'm planning on getting a convertible it may not work out as well, but we'll see.
I definitely do think we need to get together in our regions to host Camaro track days. Rent out a local road course and drive the cars to their limits safely and without legal problems. We have regional forums here. We should get on that. There is no reason we can't please both the people who rightfully think we should respect the law and the people who rightfully think these cars deserve to be driven fast on occasion.

Go to a track
In SoCal, both the Autoclub Speedway (Fontana) and Willow Springs have days when you take your car and wring it out. I got my wifes V6 Passat to 110 and said that's enough.

yeah I don't really understand why the speed limiter is set so high. If the highest speed limit in America is like 75 I would think 90-100 would be plenty. If you are racing it you should be able to go to the dealership and get it raised but for normal production I don't see why it is so high personally.

Driving over 150 mph is unnerving to me unless I'm on a track, I run fast on uphill mountain roads for the lateral G's and believe me these cars get that done! I have too many friends that have been cuffed and stuffed doing straight line top speed runs.

I think going 160 would land you in jail in some states. I did once on a turnpike in Florida 100, mph, it was nuts to hit that speed. I have a GTO - the gauge is 200mph, it may have a limit of 150, but who would want to get caught over 100 mph and have the state take your Camaro for going over 100. I wouldn't go 100 mph in Virginia unless it is in Danville, VA. Danville has a road coarse that you could hit 100-150mph.

That makes more since. I thought they was talking about regular street cars. Thats why I threw in the Dragster bit cause I cant quote numbers all these different cars have by h.p. and different things but I know 250mph aint many if any regular production cars be hitting those speeds unless your spending more money on a car than alot of houses here in Tenn, cost. But I just dont see spending over $100k on a car and somr those super cars like lambo's are what $200k plus? Actually I thought I was an idiot for paying $65k for my H2 I had. And now after loosing almost $30k when i got rid of it I still fill like an Idiot. Then again I never have claimed to be a rocket scientist just a good old country hill billy!

I'm a bit of a speed junkie.
A stock Suzuki Hayabusa does 186-189 mph. That's why I ride a 2 Wheeler. After I got My 'Busa up to Vmax and hit the electronic limiter, then I bought some upgrades and removed the timing retard eliminator... For me, the adrenaline doesn't even kick in until I get above 140. I don't have the Camaro yet. When I do, it will be supercharged, and it will have the limiter removed. I'll discover the top speed for my own. Hopefully, I'll live that long. Oh, for the pony haters out there, last week a guy in a red 'stang thought he would nail it while sitting next to me at a light. When I stopped laughing and twisted the throttle he was about 2 car lengths ahead. That lead lasted for maybe a second, and I can just imagine his jaw dropping open and the words, "Oh. . . Nevermind" falling out. |

Well if you you all want to run your cars legally on the street, outside Lund Nevada every year, they shut down 90 miles of road and do a road race. Run what you brung, as fast as you can go.... at your own risk. I caught the tail end of this on Gears this past week but never caught when it happens and all the rules to run on it, but for those that have a need for speed.... it is a way to do it legally!
