Did Microsoft make this? If all else fails, restart?

Scroll down to folder view. I didn't know there was a folder view until I did it. There were options for artist, genre, album, etc, and down was folder view. That worked better than all my other options. I go into folder view and have all my band names right there. Go into that folder and choose from your album or song. Done.

Still not going to work because it's not MP3 but AAC.

I've had the PDIM issues with my iPhone 3.0/1st Generation in USB and Sirius Starmate 4 in AUX.

iPhone will be recognized then after I make a stop & take the phone with me I'll come back, plug it in before starting the Camaro, touch the "No" for the question asking me if i want Airplane mode and sometimes the PDIM will not recognize the iPhone. A reboot of the iPhone usually corrects this. Sometimes the search playlists will be missing some playlists I know are on the iPhone - a scroll up/down usually corrects this.

Starmate 4 occasionally will not be recognized - requiring a turn off/turn on of the player and pulling out / plugging in the cable from the AUX port - this usually corrects that issue.

Codeman71 indicated that with the iPhone there is an issue with using the Bluetooth connection and USB - the PDIM sometimes gets confused if its searching for both the Bluetooth and the iPod at the same time.

See this quote from "ralyrat" on the Camaro Service Manual Document ID: 2279863 - I have the paper copy of the document from my GM Dealer but as its copyrighted I didn't want to scan and post so this abstract helps:

USB Radio and MP3 Functionality
The USB (Universal Serial Bus) will be a USB 2.0 port on the radio faceplate, on the IP or in the center console. This interface will give the customer the additional functionality of iPOD/MP3 command and control. Customers now have full radio control of the iPOD/MP3 audio files via the USB cable. A single USB connection allows digital audio transferring from the iPOD to the radio. The customer will also have playback capability with a USB memory stick (only MP3 and WMA files).
Note: Not all memory sticks are supported.
Customers have full radio control of the iPOD/MP3 audio files via the USB cable. A single USB connection allows digital audio transferring from the iPOD to the radio. The iPOD will be charging while connected to the radio.
Note: Video from the iPOD is NOT capable of being transferred to a Navigation radio diplay.
For the Chevrolet Cobalt, HHR and Malibu; Pontiac G5, G6, Solstice; and Saturn AURA, SKY, the USB port is on the faceplate of the radio. For all other models, it is located in the center console or IP.
For the Cadillac CTS only, a special iPOD (USB and AUX cable) is needed. This special cable comes delivered with the vehicle. In all cases, the iPOD will be charging while connected to the radio through the USB port.
Problems with iPOD Not Connecting
If the infotainment system does not operate properly when using a device connected through the USB port, this may be due to an incompatible media device.
Important: DO NOT replace the radio or multimedia interface module due to a customer device incompatibility issue.
Verify the customer's media device is validated for this system using the list below. If the customer's device is a validated device for this system, follow the SI diagnostic procedure to isolate the fault. If the customer's device is not on the validated device list, explain to the customer that their particular unit is not compatible with the system.
Troubleshooting Tips for iPOD Devices
1. Check the version of the iPOD/MP3 to confirm that it is supported.
2. Unplug and Re-insert the iPOD to verify the customer complaint.
3. Verify the battery charge of the iPOD. A low battery condition on the iPOD may not allow it to connect to the radio. The iPOD may need to be charged before it can be controlled by the radio.
4. If the customer receives a "Device Not Supported" message on their radio or is having general iPOD/MP3 connection issues (and they have a supported device), they may need to reset their iPOD. To rest the iPOD-

For the IPOD Nanos and Classic , Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

For the IPOD Touch and IPhone: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider.
5. Have the customer check their cable for quality.

Aftermarket cables can wear from use. The customer may need to purchase a new USB cable.

Verify that cable extensions are not present. The extra capacitance may cause too large a signal drop for the iPOD to communicate with the radio.
6. If the customer receives a "Device Not Supported" message on their radio with an iPOD connected (and they have a supported device), the customer may need to download the latest firmware from the Apple website (Please visit www.apple.com for more information).

Reference my above post where I explained why I didnt put a "working fine" poll option.

I'm sorry that so many people are having problems with the PDIM locking up on them and having to restart the vehicle to fix the problem. As UCF has stated here, we are working on a firmware update to correct the issue. We actually have released it and it is going through the system. I will keep you updated on its progress to let you know when you can visit your dealer for an update.

As for the update process...I can only say what we designed it for. It can be updated using a computer connected to the CAN bus, or it can be updated via USB. I really don't know anything about the dealer update process, so I don't know what they will have access to for the update.

Again, I'm sorry you've had to create this post but so far everything listed in here should be resolved with this update.

Good news! Thanks for the heads up. I'm guessing that they'll just do it over the CAN bus since that's what dealers are familiar with. But since it can be done via USB, is there any chance of it just getting posted on a website (like service.gm.com) so that adventurous customers have the option of doing it themselves? Would save GM and us some time/effort. Also, any chance of a change list? Would be cool to see what's getting fixed.

I know it for sure would be easier to just have it on a website, but then there's the chance of bricking the thing (turning the car off while updating, yanking the drive during the process, etc...) I know people smart enough to download a file probably wouldn't do that, but who knows. Also if the dealer does it, they can keep it in the service records for the vehicle and keep track of how many updates have been done and their success rate and whatnot.

Probably not going to be a change list compiled. I'm sure the software team made one, but it probably isn't going to leave them.

Good News! It looks like there may be newer software out for the PDIM. Camaro1 was able to update his when he was looking for software updates for his Camaro. Be prepared to wait though as the update will take at least 50 minutes. Also, there is probably going to be another update in a few weeks, so you may also want to wait for that one to get released before spending the time getting the PDIM updated with this software. If anyone does get theirs updated, please post if you see any improvements in functionality.

So Codeman71, any news? I haven't taken my car in but I am having occasional problems with my iPhone (especially since I installed 3.0 on it) and was curious if there is definitely a patch available at dealerships?
