Hi Bob,

Please read Codeman's postings above. Looks like many of us are having the same issue and a fix is in the works.

My specific problem is that the USB unit forgets what mode it was in when I turn the car off. If I set it to a specific Album (folder), the next time I turn the car on it forgets and goes back to playing everything in alphabetical order. The directory structure on mine is basically Artist/Album. I rip my cd's from Media Player. Is this specific issue going to be addressed in the update you were talking about, or is there maybe even a current fix now? It hasn't been too much of a pain yet, but the next time I buy a new cd and rip it to my flash drive it'll get frustrating when I want to listen to it. My commute to work is only 3 - 5 minutes so it'll be hard to listen to it beginning to end.

And do you have any guess on a timeline for the firmware update? I'm not looking to hold you to a specific date, I'm just hoping for an estimate.

Thanks.
Hey Riz. Glad you got your Camaro! I hope you've been able to enjoy it!

We have put out a firmware update into our system and it is working its way through. I really don't know what the timeframe is, but my guess is approximately a month for it to make it into production.

The specific issue you are bringing up is known and unfortunately will not be fixed in this update. It takes quite a bit of added memory to be able to store the current playlist that you were on. So, it will always go back into alphabetical mode once that current song is done with. Not sure if we'll be able to resolve this issue in a future update or not. Currently the only device that supports remembering what playlist you were playing is an iPod. I know this is not as easy or convenient as a thumb drive, but fortunately the iPod keeps track of all of those settings and so it can remember where you left off and start back up.

Also, when it comes to memory for the PDIM, is the memory hardwired into the module or do you think there would be a way for someone to "upgrade" the amount of memory it has while absolutely voiding all warranty on the module
I'm not a software programmer, so I don't know. It does seem like it wouldn't be that difficult to do, but I guess they had to make certain tradeoffs in order to be able to index as many songs as possible.

And no, it won't be possible to increase the amount of memory. The memory chip is soldered directly onto the PCB and even it that was upgraded, the software isn't written for it to be able to take advantage of that additional memory. I'm sorry that this is causing so many headaches :(.

The software update coming should fix this issue.

What about remembering the filename of the playlist? Then it can reload the playlist and skip to whichever track number it was on before.

Nah man, no headaches. You're doing an awesome job, don't let anyone make you second-guess yourself. As with all things, tweaks can be made and different people see things from different perspectives. Keep up the good work and we look forward to having the ability to supply fresh input

Trust me, I'm enjoying the hell out of this car. I'm sure everyone else is too. So don't feel like we're nit-picking. We just want to offer up some ideas and see if they're even plausible.

If the person was last listening to a playlist file, I guess it would be a bit simpler. But, if they were listening to an Artist, Album, Genre, whatever it gets a bit more complicated.

I know it really stinks that they weren't able to save this information over ignition cycles...

Glad to hear you're still enjoying the car! I really appreciate all of your feedback because you can count on me taking this all into consideration for our future products. Since this is our first USB/Bluetooth module, you can see that we have a few learning steps to take. Thanks again for the great feedback on the car!

Ah, I hadn't realized you were talking about on-the-fly generated playlists. At that point it's no longer quite as minor having to write the code to do that job...now it's got to remember the user input that resulted in the playlist being generated.

Codeman, thanks for answering. And just to clarify on my issue, I haven't been using playlists. I've been using the Search function on the BA system itself. Based on the directory structure on the flash drive I usually use the Folder View. I was wondering if future releases would allow it to remember which mode it was in.

If you are working in the Kilobyte memory range and not Megabtye range I could understand how you would be limited. I wouldn't think remembering last mode/folder would take much memory, but if you are at 630KB out of 640KB I could see the problem.

If it never gets fixed, it won't make me regret getting the car. My last car had a glitchy USB port too. And this car is great. It's just one of those annoying little things you notice over time. Thanks again for taking the time to answer all of our questions.

I wish you had posted 5 minutes earlier. I hadn't thought about it actually having to build a playlist for the different search functions. That would take even more space than I was thinking.

Not trying to sound like an ass or anything, but how did this go unnoticed on pre-producion runs or testing? Was any done. Its not a major problem for the car, however it is a major problem for the cars radio and really dampens the driving experience. Plus this is the hot car to have right now...kind of embarssing to spend 30+ on a car for easily noticed problems to pop up. Anyways my neighbors are seriously walking up my driveway with flashlights to show friends the camaro...LOL. Creeps.

On a serious note, can the updates be sent via onstar?

I just overheard my neighbors saying my camaro has an lt1 in it. Its a 2SS lol.

Yeah I apologize for the issues that people have been finding with the USB implementation. We did do extensive testing before production release and a majority of the bugs were able to be fixed in time. This one unfortunately was not. There are updates on their way to fix the issue and they should resolve the USB port not responding bug that people have been seeing.

No, the updates unfortunately cannot be sent via Onstar. You'll have to visit your dealer to grab the update. I started another thread on this topic specifically.
