I think the design flows a bit better than the awkward looking Transit Connect.

The problem is it's not that good of a Nissan product.

The powertrain is abysmal. 2.0L 4 cylinder with a CVT. CVT alone is a dealbreaker for a lot of people. Then the power output is low, but probably adequate for a vehicle of this size. The biggest issue in my eyes is the fuel economy. How they only managed to eek out 25 MPG highway is just beyond me. Our Terrain regularly achieves better economy than that using a larger, more powerful engine in a bigger car.

I don't know if it's an aero issue, gearing, tuning, whatever, but the fuel economy is just absolutely unacceptable. If I were GM I would be demanding Nissan install a GM powertrain rather than their engine.

I think all of these utility vans look ugly IMHO.

The CVT really isn't as bad as a lot of people say about it. While the power may be low, it still packs a punch.

But you have to keep in mind with these vans is that they aren't made for use by the average Joe that would buy a Terrain, Traverse, etc. People that drive these vans aren't look for power. They're looking to get from point A to point B. I don't feel like I'm wording it right, but hopefully you're catching on to what I'm trying to say.

I understand what you're saying, but also remember that fuel economy is a huge factor for fleets. The less gasoline you're pouring into your vehicles, the less money is being eaten out of your income obviously.

Looking at Transit Connect, they have a 27 MPG rating, which leads me to believe that the awkward shape of these compact cargo vans is causing an aerodynamics issue negatively affecting fuel economy. With that being said, those two extra MPGs with the Ford quickly adds up in a fleet of vans, and that might be a crippling factor for this vehicle.

When all is said and done, Nissan will probably sell a crapload of these as City Expresses and less as NV200s simply because Nissan is virtually nonexistent in the North American commercial world, while Chevrolet dominates a good segment of the utility van market. That being said, if I were in charge of things, I would've engineered a ground-up van from the upcoming D2XX platform for Cruze/Equinox and put heavy emphasis on balancing capability and fuel economy.

Wow....just, wow. I almost don't know what to say. GM almost seems to be at war with itself....two entirely different companies all under the same roof. On one side, they can build stuff like the Camaro, the new ATS, the new Vette, the new trucks, etc....all kinds of great stuff...

Then, at the same time, someone on the other side of the building takes a page out of the old GM playbook, and says..."there's a market niche we aren't in, dump something in it. It doesn't matter what, the important thing is something is there."

Every once in a while, nothing can be more. This might be one of those cases.

That really is an enigma. With that engine/transmission in that vehicle, I don't know how a number that low is possible. The V8 versions of the Mustang, Camaro, and Challenger get that, or better.

Why not get a stripped mini-van, like the Ram C/V...that has a V6, and gets better mileage.
