Anyone else using octane booster in their SS?
I read on another thread about the engine feeling like it is missing occasionally and the tach fluctuates about 100RPM. My SS 6 speed was doing the same thing so I started using octane booster on every fill up. Adding octane booster solved the missing and fluctuating tach but it has created another problem. The gas pedal has become so sensitive that it is hard to push it light enough to not do a rabbit start. A couple of times I've had it where I push the gas pedal enough to keep the car from stalling when I let the clutch out, but when I pushed the gas a little the car would lurch forward so I would let off and then push it again and I ended up with the car jerking like hell. All I could do is laugh when it happened.
I didn't read of any issues about adding octane booster, anyone aware of a problem with it? Russ |

If you're talking about adding one of those little bottles of booster you can buy at Wal Mart or the auto parts store... those don't do anything.
If you're talking about dumping a gallon or two of xylene in your tank then maybe you've done something. |

The lead in turbo blue will ruin the cats.
Agree on the smell, though.

I sell an Octane boost that works. Amsoil sells it. I also sell at discount. Next thing is your car should not need it at all. I have an SS with 2200 miles and an Automatic. It is sensitive on starts from a stop most times. I think it is more with electronics than gas since I run premium all the time. I will add my own octane boost to see if there is a difference, but do not expect it or recomemend it since it would cost too much for the long haul. If you want a cleaner we have a gas additive too, but it is not needed on a new car and does not need to be used till after about 10,000 miles and then only every 4,000 add 1 bottle. Info is up at www.greatoil4less.com

I used 2- 16oz Turbo 108 Octane Booster at every fill up. Are you guys telling me that is only increasing the octane by 1 point? I have only used BP premium 93 in the car.
Perhaps it's my imagination but there certainly seems like a difference to me in the idle and the gas pedal seems a lot more sensitive. |

I once had similar issues with my '84 Monte SS. (L69 H.O. also used in Camaros of the era). I had taken it in for service for some other stuff and asked the service writer about it. He asked me what kind of gas I was using and when I told him Shell he said not to use it because that engine/PCM didn't like Shell gas for some reason. I thought he was nuts and feeding me a line of bull, although he didn't try to sell me some service I didn't need to run up the bill. I quit using Shell gas and low and behold the problem went away! If you are using one particular brand of fuel may want to change it and see if it helps.

Ive had the dopeys at my dealership refill my tank in the Z06 with 87 regular octane which obviously through the car into really bad misfiring. I put the same 108 octane boost and within only a few minutes of driving the problem went away. How much it is raising the octane I cannot prove but it WORKS.
