I have polarized Ray Bans, and while the display is a little dimmer, I can still see it just fine.

However, I do acknowledge that the expensive glassses provide better and clearer vision. I just won't spend that much on something I can't seem to hold onto for more than a few months. |

I had some elcheapos that didn't do this, but I had a feeling that they werent really polarized. Being as those were my first pair of cheap glasses ina few years, after they broke in a like a week, I decided that I couldn't do it again and went back to my Oakleys. I didn't notice it at first because I always had my HUD turned all the way up. But once I started turning it down at night, when I would get back in during the day, I would have trouble seeing it, then when I would put my glasses on it would disappear. But its easily fixed by turning it back up

I leave my HUD on the brightest setting day or night.
perfect for me. not overbearing at night at all and very visible during the day even with bright sun and glasses on.

My rx polarized costas dim it, but not bad, and now that I think about it I really cant tell much of a difference. Now when its time to fill up, I have to take them off because the numbers on the gas pump dont show up at all. I'd drop another $599 on my third pair if I had to and not gripe a bit (first pair got lost in the seattle airport about 6 months after I got them). The cheap 20 knock offs from the gas station don't even come close. Easy way to keep them nice is if you aren't wearing them, clean them and put them back in the case.

My Wiley-X glasses with shatterproof lenses and prescription were around 500 bucks. I have a health fund that I used it for. About to get a new pair next month.

I have prescription polarized sunglasses, and put up with that because they are so nice in bright sunlight. Usually don't even need to lower the visor when heading into the sun with the sunglasses I have. So, it's interesting to see that the HUD might also be affected by this.

Yup, I had the same problem with the Maui Jims my wife got me for my birthday when I had my Z06. I just kept a pair of $20 sunglasses in the car for wnen I needed to see the HUD.

I always were good sunglasses and a good watch, Omega. Taken care of theylast for years. I have my watch for over twenty years. Cheap sunglasses break easily and you can go through 5 pairs a year in Az. I'vehad my Oaklys 3 years.

Yeah, I have the same problem with my polarized shades. I can still see the HUD, but it's significantly dimmer. If it's really sunny out, it's hard to see at all.

$300 Prescription polarized sunglasses will deffinetly make the hud have to be turned up all the way. If I tilt my head one way or the other it will completely block the HUD. Same for the radio. When I first got them, I was at a gas station, wondering what the heck was wrong with the LCD display on the pump, it looked smashed. I thought it was broke, but could just make out enter zip code. Then I realized it was just the polarized sunglasses.
So if your polarized sunglasses don't do this, then they aren't really polarized, regardless of how much you paid. Last edited by air1kdf; 05-24-2013 at 09:21 PM. Reason: typo |
