A couple developers have said the Xbox has 3 gigs reserved for the OS's. Not to mention both systems are suppose to "think" in that they try and anticipate what you are going to do and have parts of the ram loaded with those predictions. By the time it is all said and done, less than 4 gigs will be available on the Xbox. My biggest thing isn't the amount of ram, it's the type of ram they are using.
What is wrong with the type? Is it not standard DDR3? That's the perfect memory for OS's, especially if they are using multiple. Also, it is rumored the GPU is based on the Radeon HD 7790, which has 1GB of GDDR5.

On the PS4 it was announced (I think) that they were using strictly GDDR5, which in my head is a kind of a bad thing to do. While GDDR-type is great for graphics cards, the high latencies on GDDR-types are undesirable for running an OS.

IMO the optimal configuration would probably be somewhere between the two systems. 8GB for the OS and multi-taskings, and a solid 2GB of GDDR5 for the graphics processor.

In both systems the GPU and the CPU are combined into one processor allowing the GPU to do non-graphical processes when needed (this was shown off during the PS4 reveal). In this scenario, the higher speed of GDDR5 is more desirable.

As for splitting the ram, one of the biggest things both systems are doing this generation is unified memory. Parts of the ram will be reserved for the OS but everything else is open to whatever needs it. This is one aspect the Devs really love and was one of the biggest complaints of the last generation. Having two types of ram means no more unified ram and it requires a new memory controller raising the price.

I'd love to know where I've bashed, I've simply stated the facts of the console. That's not really bashing.

Ah ok, thanks for that explanation. I'm used to a traditional gaming PC setup, so excuse my ignorance on console setups

So they finally came out and officially confirmed all the bad news that has been going around since the reveal.

- Xbox will have DRM and the ability to prevent used games HOWEVER it is up to the developer to decide if they want to use it.

- Xbox requires an internet connection every 24 hours to play games.

At that price I don't see a lot of mom's picking this up at Christmas for their kids. $299 sure, $399 maybe, but I don't see $499.

So what's the news from their E3 presentation aside from the exorbitant price tag?

Reading an article, only one game excites me. Killer Instinct. It's been too long. Too bad I won't have the opportunity to play it. =/

edit: After watching the trailer for the game...It's a SF4 clone. /facepalm

E3 is from the 11th thru 13th. Right now everyone is doing their pre-E3 briefing, announcing their goals and specific highlights of what they will be announcing during E3.

They did announce that effective day one of the Xbox launch, Microsoft will no longer sale points. Instead they are going to local currency for online purchases.

It's going to be about how to successfully kill gaming with the use of DRM.
