So I'm starting to get a little annoyed with the people out the in general forum that think the tweaks made to the 2014 turn the hottest car on the road (if they didn't think that they wouldn't be on the site, I'm guessing) into what they are all calling ugly or some other derogatory terms.
Seriously if a thinning of the front fascia and new tail lamps turn the car ugly then it was ugly to start with. Compare it to the Malibu refresh. It looks nice but sure isn't making me go, "ohhhhhhhhh now it's awesome, have to run out and buy me one of those". It still has most of the deficiencies the 2013 had. They just addressed the complaints but it still has to fight the Accord and Fusion and those tweaks addressed a few drawbacks but still didn't make it a top contender, at least IMO. It gives the car a different look to differentiate model years a little bit so that when someone comes up to a guy who just bought a 2014 and get's asked, "hey, what year is that? A 2011?" I can see why some don't like the tail lamps, but in the entirety of the Gen 5 Camaro it didn't make the car go from hot to ugly. There, soap box put away.

I hated the refresh at first but it's grown on me. The only thing I'm not sure about is the front chrome trim on RS models but that's what Plastidip or paint is for. In any case, expect similar results when we start seeing 6th gen mules. "OMG it's so ugly our 5th gens are so much better our 5th gens are the best looking cars ever lolololol."

I was fortunate enough today to be able to attend a Camaro event today here in the Detroit area. It's an annual event put on by a C5 member that is a huge Camaro advocate. It's a great event every year, and it just happens to take place about 3 miles away from a certain proving grounds that starts with an M. I was able to walk around the complete line of 2014 refreshed Camaros. ZL1 coupes and verts, an SS with 1LE and Ricaros and..........drum roll....a camo-wrapped Z/28 that rolled in from Milford. About the 2014 refresh, all I can say is bravo. I love it. You have to see it in person. I think the update on the SS, where front and rear is changed, is a major upgrade. No contest. I like the new styling better. If there wasn't so much aero engineered into the front of the ZL1, that would have been changed also. I think GM did a great job on the new styling. There was a large contingent of engineers and execs present. It was truly a pleasure to stand around and talk Camaros with Al O, Mark Stielow and Aaron Link. All really great guys with pure passion for Camaro. For anybody to criticize what GM has done with this platform is idiotic. They have hit nothing but home runs since the 5th gen platform was launched. We are truly fortunate to have such awesome choices in this platform. Btw, for you Z/28 guys....that thing is going to be a hot rod. The sound is totally different. This car was obviously a mule. It had a front splitter all patched up with durabond. Obviously going through some aero work. Tires are very sticky. Brakes are beyond massive. This car is going to be revered for ages. Mark Stielow had one of his Camaros there. Not sure he still owned this one but he built it a few years back. Yellow 69 with an LS9. I've never seen one of his cars up close. Really nice craftsmanship. Maybe the best I've ever seen in a modernized old school muscle car. It was pretty cool talking to him about his Gingerman lap in the ZL1 vs his Red Devil 69. That was a pressure day for him. Cool story. Talked to Aaron Link about his hot lap at the ring in the ZL1. Very nice guy. After speaking with him, it was clear that he got it all out on that lap. He thought maybe a second or two left out there. Not too bad on such a huge track. Definitely a hot lap. Great day. We are lucky to have what we have with the Camaro. Team Camaro really gets an A+ in my book. |

Latest issue of Motor Trend (arrived yesterday) has their lap times for Streets of Willow for 22 recent tests. #7: 1LE @ 1:22.7. Makes ya wonder what the Z/28 will do...
BTW, a 2011 Z06 was 4th @ 1:20.4. Quickest was a 2014 GT-R Track Pack @ 1:19.6, followed very closely (are you watching, Number 3?) by a Ducati 1098 S @ 1:19.7 |

Nearly 200 hp with only 550 pounds (with a small rider) is a hp to weight ratio you can't beat. Each hp has only 2.7 pounds or so to move. A 3,500 pound car would need over 1,000 hp to match that.

I'm starting to believe the Z/28 could and will best the Z06 on certain courses. When comparing it to the rest (especially the Ducati) it just shows how impressive the 1LE is for a $37K car.
