Dude at the tune shop said that if the rich mixture was caused by the air filter AND it ran optimaly removing it. It could possibly be the difference in 20 - 30 HP. He said he would expect 20 though.

No but from what you are implying, don't ever expect factory HP numbers in southern Alabama/Louisiana/Georgia/Mississippi in the summer.

Down low where your A/F is rich, if that was more in line I would expect you would gain a good bit of low end for sure !!

I"ve been trying to get a K&N filter since I got my Camaro... none of the local shops have one... guess I'll order one directly from K&N online. Argh.

those numbers are pretty bad, corrected to SAE would have been ~305 rwhp. That's just WAY to much lost at the wheels.

What would swapping the OEM air filter for a K&N yield...a few hp?

I'd say typically yes, but if the stock Air Filter is defective somehow, he would see a much larger gain ...

Food for thought irpq11 .. if you know someone else w/ a camaro .. swap air filters and re-dyno or just do the swap and do some butt dyno comparisons to see if you think you pick up any ..

But other Makes and Models it seems are getting the numbers. Including the LS3 Camaro.

:( I thought they would correct the other way.

Well, he did say that only IF the filter is causing it to run rich. That would be crazy though. I'm thinking of taking it off and seeing if there is a noticeable difference.

Your 2&3 dyno runs are pretty close to what some guys are seeing. Your car definately needs some tuning. But its not way off the mark.

Most the stock L99's are dynoing around 315-325 rwhp.

I have a feeling there's some bad factory tunes.

Some of the 05 GTO's had real bad factory tunes and were running pig rich from the factory. I know a guy with an 05 A4 GTO and his car only dynoed 300rwhp. He actually told his dealer he wanted to get his money back. But he kept the car and modded it and it ended up being real fast.
