XM Radio - not what the booklet says...but...

So, I don't want to be petty - however - I want to get what I was promised... So, if you read the XM Radio booklet, you see that it says you get 3 months of online access free and that you will get online access free when you purchase the package/renew your service.

That is not the case it seems... XM's policy changed in March (my car was built in June - that's when the booklet was put in there) and you will not get it free - ever they told me. The 'customer service' people in whatever country they are in will not honor that promise. I stand by the fact that if the book says it's free, and the book was put into my glovebox in June, then if someone was too lazy to change that booklet in the four months between policy changing and my car being built - that they should honor that promise.

I have heard nothing good about XM radio customer service, I guess I see why...

Chevy Customer Service (the book also has the GM symbol on the top and the link is gm.xmradio.com) will not help either. After tortuous time on the phone w/XM and Chevy - amazingly, the email I sent to: lccstreaming@xmradio.com
asking for the service as promised and I quoted the book - worked. They lived up to the promise that XM's phone-answerer, her supervisor, and GM did not.

So, hope my wasted time helps someone else...I found that I enjoyed XM so much that I could either sit in my car all day (which I'd do anyway if I could...) or listen to it on my computer!)

So e-mail, don't call, GOT IT! Thanks That does kinda suck that they don't give you the free service... Not sure how much I'll use it anyway, usually just throw my iPod on.

It took me months to get XM to switch billing from one account to another. No, their customer service is not great.

Here's what I emailed them:
Hello,
I just bought a 2010 Camaro with a radio code of <blah>. It came with an XM flyer/book called "Turn your drive on." In that book it says "Get XM outside your GM. Want to enjoy XM at home or at work too? Unlimited access to XM Radio Online is included in your three trial months of XM and when you subscribe."

I followed the directions and received the following error message:
"The Radio ID you registered is not eligible for XM Radio Online. However, you can subscribe to XM Radio Online by visiting http://listen.xmradio.com."

What is the deal? I have heard very bad things about XM radio and customer service...I was hoping this wasn't the case... Can you please help me get the service I was promised I would get?

PS From what I am reading if I subscribe to my car after the three months - then the online access is included in that price - is that correct? So there will not be an additional charge?
----------------------
No answer to my 'ps' part...big surprise!)

Now, I thought XM just released an app last week that allows you to listen to XM on your iphone and some ipods...?

You'll get a canned non-answer back from someone NOT in the USA. I've gone 'round and 'round with XM with simple questions that don't get answered. Good luck!

After picking up my car last week I found that I couldn't get XM radio online access either. I emailed lccstreaming@xmradio.com and received a reply that said "As of March 11, 2009, we have stopped offering free online listening and have upgraded our online listening platforms to a higher digital quality; hence, the error message you received while attempting to listen to XM Radio Online. The new upgraded service is offered at $2.99 per month. Over the past few months, we had been offering existing subscribers a way to continue free online listening with one of our Annual Savings Plans. Taking advantage of this offer enabled subscribers to continue receiving online streaming at 32K for the duration of their Annual Savings Plan." So I guess that means if I want free xm radio online I have to subscribe to one of their Annual Savings Plans. Hmmm. Not what the booklet says. Boo. I wasn't sure if I would continue XM when my free trial ends, but if this is an example of their customer service, no thanks.

I just tried to set-up my XM online and got the same issues. I called customer service and got some very rude lady that told me I had to pay $2.99 a month. I told her the booklet says "free" and she basically gave me the big FU.

I copy and pasted your email and sent it. Let's hope it works!
Doesn't help me much now, considering I wanted to listen to the Broncos game, and CAN'T!!!

Definitely won't be renewing my subscription after 3 months!

I did call (hadn't read this post yet) and the guy gave me a little grief, put me on hold for a minute or so, then told me everything was set up and ready to go. I'm listening online as I type.

On a side note, he did say I would have to cancel the online trial or I would be charged for it. He didn't take my credit card, so I don't know how they plan on doing it...good luck to them.
