I set my mirrors the way the guy in the video said and it works really well. You don't have to look over your shoulder or look threw the small window in the back seat. You can see a car behind you with your center mirror see him change lanes pick him up with side mirrors and never have to turn your head, just look ahead. Try it,it works.

Why are you yelling?
I am with you , I never turn my head and look , I rarely look out the rearview mirror , The sides are all you need . Know your surroundings at all times and you will be find,
All this "Blind spot talk " Is way over done, There is the same blind spot in almost every vehicle. Just drive and put all the gadgets away.

I use to drive a ford that had them.. Never used them. I would always look before switching lanes. Saying..

"Sorry officer my blind spot mirror lied to me" Isn't going to work.

They didn't bother me being there, but I only trust myself and my eyes.

Had the convex ones installed for a while, but to me the distortion and depth perception was way off, I never felt safe changing lanes with them, adjusting them out and looking over the shoulder WILL work. I was taught that looking over the shoulder was a must.

I also assume, that if you have an accident while changing lanes, it will be YOUR fault, so looking over ones shoulder would be an "insurance policy".

Just my opinion.

The Mustang has the best side mirrors. I still can believe that design hasn't been brought over to our cars....

It's still required here to pass a driving exam. And any driving school will teach you to position your mirrors to see the side lanes not your car. As for your "situation" it should never exist. ALWAYS maintain your distance from the car in front of you to give you time to react. SPECIALLY in heavy traffic. Nothing beats defensive driving.
Totally agree. Defensive driving saves a lot of body work. I always pay as much attention to what is behind me as what is in front. On multiple lanes I always watch cars as they catch up and overtake me on either side. If you set your mirrors correctly as explained in the video and pay attention to things coming up on your backside, you wont get cars caught in a blind spot. Best offense is a good defense.

Most people like to have the mirrors aimed such that they can see down the side of their vehicle. WRONG. They should be aimed so that you can see the lanes on either side of you (capturing everything that is out of view of your windshield-mounted mirror).

Nobody needs to see down the side of the car. I learned this at a professional driving class. It solves the blind spot problem on any car, including our Camaros.
I have driven several million miles. Much of it in cities like Houston and LA. If you want to do the best job of tracking all cars and being able to react instantly, you will want blindspot mirrors.

There are times you want to see down the side of your car, such as when you are backing into tight spaces.

If you adjust your mirrors properly and have properly located blind spot mirrors, they cannot "lie" to you. This is physics, not emotions.

I have lived my entire life in Texas. Probably been driving longer than you have been on this earth.

You have obviously not spend much time driving in Houston, Dallas or Austin. Absolutely impossible to maintain textbook spacing without people pulling in and eliminating the buffer space.

And anyone who has driven in Houston knows that too many other drivers do not obey the textbook. I have seen cars make right turns to take an exit out of the fast lane on Loop 610.

Now if one only drives in Marfa or Old Dime Box...

I grew up on Houston, went to UT in Austin and now live in Dallas.... The fact that the street is full of morons is why you want to practice defensive driving and pay attention to front and back. If someone cuts in your buffer you create a new one. Simple. I dunno how old you are but I've been driving motorcycles and cars for 20yrs and that's plenty long to know that "heavy traffic" doesnt mean "let me ride up on the car in front of me so we can pack as many cars as possible into this highway.." if you've been driving longer than me and still havent figured that out then I don't even know what else to say....

If you lived in these towns, and you say you can keep the textbook buffer, you must be putting your car in reverse on the freeway. Or only driving on the freeways at 3 a.m. And I don't know what else to say.

I guarantee you that if you leave textbook buffers in front of you in Houston at almost any time of the day, at least two cars (maybe three) will pull in front of you. You can slow down and recreate the buffer, and at least two more will pull in. Keep this up and you will be going slower and slower until you come to a stop.

And yep, I have been driving longer than you have been on this earth.

Theory is great, but sometimes theory meets real world.

This. And it is not relevant to only Houston. Everywhere. You leave a gap and some Jackhole will fill it. And cut you off doing it.

Just bought a new Ford on Monday that has these. First time I'd ever driven with them & now I think they're fantastic. Very easy to get used to IMO.

Best blind spot mirror is your own mirrors...learn to use them and stop using dummy mirrors to make up for your non-wanting to look around.
