how many are there?? maybe the one that was tested...its a simple question for someone that can read the posted graph..

i just want to know if theres a reasonable return on the money spent..if the horsepower is negligible at a rpm close to redline..id like to know..or is it down low where the car is driven..

I tested some 20 different aftermarket Air intake systems, nicknamed Cold Air kits, some are some are not.

The Testing Document Shows both Peak and Average Power gains and or Losses, along with Temp data.

Graphs show some systems gain everywhere and some trade low for top end power and some show losses across the board.

All the data is Here, A Few minutes of Reading will answer all of your questions.

The Better systems are

CAI
Rotofab
Halltech
ADM

Which Gain From bottom to top and actually are Cold Air Intake Kits.

i remember talking to a k&n salesman at the california speedway, he told me k&ns oil filters add horsepower.....true story and he stuck to it, so I'm a bit leary of claims..

i love the sound of wind going into an engine, but do i want to spend a bunch of money on a sound?? i know if you spend enough, your mind will tell you "its working"..im not able to pull out any information from the posted graphs...im slow and old...

i was hoping someone could give me a bottom line...and think maybe you did with:

" Graphs show some systems gain everywhere and some trade low for top end power and some show losses across the board."

thanks.

i agree mikey, and I'm wondering how much i could make if i said i had a cat eye marble you drop in your fuel tank and it makes horsepower..and as long as you can hear it rolling around in the tank, its working.......know what i mean??

So you came to this site to ask a group of people that you don't know, which CAI is the best and where it helps the most? As Ted pointed out in his post, all the info for all the tests are in the very first post. Since you're not wanting to take someone word for it, i'd suggest you study the graphs, read the spreadsheet and make your own decision. That is what this test was meant for. It's not to prove one intake is better than the other. It's all just the data and the pertinent data from the testing is listed in the spreadsheet.

Google cold air intake. Its a no brainer, its like arguing that headers and nitrous dont give you more power.

Its the same idea as a supercharger or turbo, sure its not forced induction, but its freeer flowing and colder (more compact) induction.

More air in the engine is what its about, that is what the engine is starving for when you stomp on it. The engine can get as much fuel as it wants (to an extent), so you are trying to give it as much air as it can ask for.

The sound is just a byproduct

i guess you didn't see the post where i said i couldn't make heads or tails of the graph..maybe you could help me out with it....when and where does the added horsepower come in??? you pick the system.

come on, I'm not asking for the meaning of life...

varoom, i have a cold air intake on my duramax, I'm familure with the concept, but i added it to my truck because the original intake was damaged in a wreck....the ad's for these things say "added horsepower" i would like to know where and how much....

Perhaps you didn't see this post where he answered your question already.

Hehe. It would be easier to read if he used thinner lines and different colors, but everything you need to know is there. Each graph is stock on bottom (assuming the CAI actually added power) and the CAI on top. So where the lines diverge is where the power is made over stock. Torque is the flatter curve and HP is the steep hill curve. I'm not sure how much detail you want me to go into.

Nice revamp on the tests Ted. It's a bit deceiving on the Fastlane intake. It shows modest IAT and KR, but we both know it's far worse than that sitting in the garage or at a stoplight. I like the power once I'm moving, but she sure can feel like a dog after a red light...

You have to consider the Fuel trim data which is a big factor, at selecting the right timing values, WOT fueling, and torque reporting to the TCM on A6 Cars..
