It's interesting to read back to where people thought or hoped the weight would be and where it ended up.

Is it just me or does it seem that we've all waited sooooo long for this and all I keep seeing are threads about minor crap deciding the fate of your decision, people groaning about being pushed back a week or two because of some issues, and "Loyalists" second guessing the car? It's a Camaro! It's a brand new car so the're are going to be problems ,not everything is going to be perfect. And further more, IT'S BACK!!! So, stop complaining about meticulous things and be friggin' happy that the car is here and even better than we all suspected at the beginning. Bang for your buck is a total understatement regardless if you go LS or SS/RS. Be happy people! end rant.

found my guestimate:

Also, where do you guys get the impression that he has bad info? Its been said that the Camaro will be under 4000 lbs and we here at camaro5 keep saying that it will be 3750 lbs (+/- 2%). Hearing that it is likely to be over that weight isn't out of the question, afterall it could be 3751 lbs for all we know.
I wasn't too far off ...

Yup, 140 hp in a 2700 lb Civic will absolutely destroy a Camaro SS.

"a few mods ... " let me guess, upped the boost? Lets go stock for stock, modded to modded and keep things fair. I could probably put 'a few mods' on my car and surprise some SS owners too. The WRX STi? I don't know much about the older ones, but the new ones seem to be heavy for the size, and not exactly cheap either.

WRX STi
3395 lbs
$34 995

Fuel economy leaves a lot to be desired too, 17/25? Thats rougly what the 400 hp SS has while weighing a couple hundred lbs more.

Well considering most of the times the cars will be on the street and when an STI pulls up to an SS its gonna look like crap in comparison. As far as performance the SS will hand it it's ass stock. Once you go adding crap, then anything can beat anything.

Never said the STi wasn't fast ... but that doesn't mean it will be faster than the Camaro. The new ones weigh 3395, lesser models weigh less. I got that from Subaru's website, same with the price. Speaking of which, I typically use US prices on the general sections of the board here. I switch to Canadian in the Canada section, less confusing for our friends to the south.

Anyway, you end up with a car that weighs about 10% less than the Camaro with about 70% the hp. I know which one I'm putting my money on. If you want to close that gap, a couple of bold ons are not going to do it.

I'm sorry, there is nothing "Posing" about a 13.0(Hotrod got 12.9) 1/4, 0-60 in 4.7(I believe 4.6 was achieved), Skidpad has ranged from .88 to .93. Atleast that's the way I see it. Can those speeds be attained with less power and less weight? Sure. I can do that in my WRX with some Mods. But after driving this car around with a STI RA suspension straining my liver, being worried about the tranny packing it in, or the rear diff going, I am ready for a car that is affordable and can achieve all the above while being civil enough to drive and that doesn't look as Jeremy Clarkson himself said of the latest STI "A smashed Buttock". That's just how I see things.
