Okay, I'm a newb to the gen5 who wants to use the help desk for a street build. I go back to the classic muscle car era and drove a slightly modified Hemi roadrunner, so I have an idea of what works and doesn't work, to an extent.

I live at altitude, ~4400ft, and nearly all my driving will be at altitude with occasional drops to ~2700ft.

I ordered a set of Pfadt headers w/cats today and will do a 3" exhaust when funds avail. Pfadt will be marketing a cat back exhaust later this summer so I'll wait for the reviews.

I'm currently interested in the CAI brand with ADM scoop, what should I be looking for in a throttle body? In doing a search, I'm reading conflicting reports regarding catch cans, what's the consensus on this thread, pros/cons?

In time, I want to do a cam change, with all the L99 nuances. I'm not committed to this, but using Texas Speed as an example, I'm thinking a stage 3 swap. Given the altitude I live at, what compression should I be looking at. The flow numbers I've seen on CNC heads are very impressive, how much time on the 1/4 will I lose with ported L99 heads.

The transmission gear ratios with the 3.27 rear compares well with the M6/ 3.91 through the first four gears. Keeping the VVT, what are the shift points with the stage 3 cam and LS7 lifters and what's the expected gear/rpm at the end of the 1/4?

Is there a weak point with the 6L80 or rear end with this set up?

Thanks in advance, hopefully this should help the help desk get rolling.

The above post seems off topic, mods please delete it. Haha.

...Trying to think of an on topic question.. Oh! I already know the answer but here goes!..

What's the difficulty level of doing a cam/ls3 conversion in your garage with no air tools? Mind you a supercharger install is the hardest engine related mod done so far. How bout a step by step guide for the DIY'ers? Lol.

make sure your tuner knows this but I really don't see a problem with your ocassional drops

nothing wrong with CAI, ADM, vararam. RacinJason has a system in testing as we speak with lots of potential and has been developing it for some time now and could be a game changer! IMHO what are the conflicts you have been hearing?

Rhino79 was in the 10's with just a cam, slicks and skinnies! Iirc. TSP stage 3's are good so are Rhino's new grinds that are still VVT but more aggressive and I personally like them. As far as heads are concerned WCCH, AI, TEA, LPE, Flowtech all have awesome porting and cnc'ing technics. As far as compression the L99's loose compression due to the -2cc? Valve reliefs BUT that gives us more PTV clearance. I would bump compression to 11-11.5 on a GM head. But now that TSP and TFS have aftermarket castings with different valve angles they will allow for us to use bigger cams and more compression so that will help many! Ls3/L99 have a huge 2.165 intake valve on Ls3's they are hollow and L99's they are stainless steel.

The transmission gear ratios with the 3.27 rear compares well with the M6/ 3.91 through the first four gears. Keeping the VVT, what are the shift points with the stage 3 cam and LS7 lifters and what's the expected gear/rpm at the end of the 1/4?
the shift points will depend on your cam and where is the HP is. You have other options besides Ls7's like BTR SLR lifters and then the two versions of linkbar lifters by Morel/Lunati which are all on the Brian Tooley racing website
Is there a weak point with the 6L80 or rear end with this set up?
Being an auto is ok and will hold up for a while BUT you must use a good quality Trans cooler, even in stock form lol.

Thanks in advance, hopefully this should help the help desk get rolling.
Not a problem and hope that helps.

Litle would be better answering this, but there's a great cam swap DIY in the DIY section, and there's a really good book on LS engine work. I would link them, but I'm on my phone, so litle will do it.

EDIT: I believe this is the book

EDIT: here's the DIY

NO AIR TOOLS exempt a compressor to hold the valves up while doing spring changes lol
ESPECIALLY using an air tool during installation of the CRANK BOLT, NO air tools.
Here is the link and the books are mentioned in then too.

To add to the strength of the auto, a great tune and proper temps will allow it to live to big power. On the spray I make 650/697, and it still is alive and well!

Alight fellows I have a serious question for you jokers lol.

I just had kooks headers, hi flow cats and the magnaflow street series cat back installed and got a custom dyno tune done by the guys at Devenport.

My rwhp was 365 before the install and 351 torque. After the install and tune I am at 406 rwhp and 403 torque. My question is, does that seem low to you guys? Keep in the elevation here is over 1300 meters, we do have 94 octane but its mixed with ethenol and not widely available so I run 91/92 octane sometimes. I also have a K&N cai and I have no other mods at the time.

I thought I would have more power to the ground. It's also a lot quieter then I thought. I decided to go with the street series because I don't want any drone. It sounds good but really tame at idle. I had a muffler delete before this. I think I'm going to remove the middle resonator on cb system to give it more of a growl at idle.

How do those numbers sound to you?

Those numbers are just fine. Was that the same dyno and similar conditions? 41HP/52TQ is a good gain. You might be able to eek out a few more with a better CAI, ported throttle body, etc... but I'd be happy with those if I were you. Time to start thinking about that cam!

Also... You could consider switching mufflers to make it louder, or putting in cutouts if you just want to be loud from time to time and quiet on the highway. I've always heard that is a pretty quiet system. I think some of these guys have run it before... can't remember who though.
