That's one other point about K&N's - they are able to be cleaned and reinstalled, not disposable as the stock filter is. Thus, one reason the K&N replacement is $50. Not suire, but I'd guess the stock replacement is about half the cost, if not even less, what the K&N costs. The K&N, when needs cleaning, can be sprayed and hosed down, then allowed to dry, reapply their contaminant spray on the element and reinstall. That's something else you should be aware of when considering a K&N. Thye cleansing kit is required to clean and retreat it. The kit is roughly $20-$30 I believe. It has a cleansing agent - sprayed on the filter before hosing down and a contaminant treatment - sprayed on the filter before reinstall. One cleaning kit SHOULD last about 3 or 4 cleanings, so essentially 70 - 80,000 miles. So, cost comparison is - stock unit (wee call it's price approx., not sure actual cost) approx. $25 X 4 for 70-80,000 miles = $100. K&N and cleaning kit - $50 + $25 for 70-80,000 miles = $75. The same cleaning kit is used on the filter SUPPLIED WITH the CAI mod. For the money, either the stock replacement K&N gets better efficiency OR the CAI gets best efficiency.

Be careful. I know people who have had their warranties voided out because the oil in the K&N jacked up some senors. (not in the new Camaro but other cars).

OUCH ! They must have sprayed the heck out of theirs on cleaning ... or was this a new filter they'd not yet treated ?
I sprayed my first one after cleaning too much and it can get a bit ugly, but had'nt heard of it clogging anything. .... plus the oil is applied to the outside of the filter, so it'd have to travel past the filter element to get into the induction system ????.... Strange. The treatememt / oil is to catch any cantaminants before the actual element has to catch them, so sort of a pre filter agent. Really wonder if he did'nt just get hosed by hsi dealer. Did they show him gunked up sensors ?

K&N's will not void your warranty. Problem is people oil filters that already oiled or over oil them when cleaning.

They certainly didn't get their warranty voided... the dealership gave them a hard time about fixing some thing... I've heard of dealerships trying to blame a front end suspension problem because of an aftermarket exhaust... LOL! You simply need to know your rights!

Ask the dirt bike guys or the diesel crowd about all the dirt a K&N lets in. Look at one in person. Hold it up to any light and look at all those shafts of light coming into it. Those are called holes!! Holes do NOT filter any dirt. How much dirt is good dirt in your motor.

Got my K&N Filter last night direct from K&N Online store - I compared it to the stock filter which had a deeper filter "accordion" than the K&N, I didn't measure but it was noticeable especially when I stored the stock in the K&N box which then bulged. I did hold them both up to the light & didn't see much difference.
This morning was my frist drive/commute with the K&N though I didn't get on a highway - I'll see if there is any apparent difference though as a V6 Automatic I may not notice...

I have also heard that K&N could void warranty. Only because the person cleaning and applying new oil messes up. Not the filter itself. As long as you know how to clean it you should be fine.
