Car: 2010 2SSRS. Engine cover/intake manifold cover removal for painting.

If I understand correctly, after removing the engine cover, there's a cover over the intake manifold/plenum/whatever. It appears to be held on by 4 nuts/bolts, including those that hold the heater (or A/C) hoses in place.

I wanna remove that cover so I can paint it to match the car (Victory Red).

Is it as simple as removing those 4 nuts and lifting it up? Any caveats/warnings/whatever?

Thanks,
The steps are within this thread. You'll have to remove the fuel rails to get it off.

Sooo I've been absorbing info for the past couple weeks and I have some general questions about my LS3, like reeeeal general.

Basically, how does heat effect the LS3? Seems like this engine hates any type of heat soak...that was one good thing about my LLT, right off hour long high trips it would trap and its max potential.

And what are the REAL max potentials of the LS3 and the 6MT tranny without doing internal work on either, not hyped up internet kids dreams. Like whats the "safest" amount of boost it can take, max whp without beefing the internals, and what can the tranny/axles in particular handle with just an upgraded clutch?

Like I've said I've been searching a bunch on this but I keep seeing mixed results, I want to hear from you guys what the real deal is.

I have a 2010 manual. Here's what I can tell you. Heat soak did not become a problem until 13lbs off boost. I promise. I had it a 6lbs then 9 lbs. and 13.5lbs. At 6lbs and stroked I beat up my tyranny pretty good. It is important to note a had Richmond 4.10 gears in there, BAD MOVE. The forged internals part as a raging debate, some guys get them to last forever, others don't. I believe the 650 HP mark is where your really pushing things. I found this article to be pretty accurate.

http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/g...e/viewall.html

My advice comes from the point of view of a guy who has broken a lot of parts.

Rear upgraded was because I had to. Rebuilt tranny because I had to. Long story on the forged internals. Clutch done proactively.

To answer your question directly. 6lbs and a good clutch is a pretty safe setup. Torque is what breaks things not HP. Wheel hop damages parts as well. Rear trailing arms and subframe connectors should kill wheel hop. You should do at least that.

"I", "me", "myself" see it like this, if its a stock bottom end, let's just say "nothing" just what GM rated them to be 420hp. Whatever else you throw at it you'll be pushing the envelope or luck and hope your tuner did a phenomenal job and your Hyperexplosive (hypereutectic pistons), powdered metal rods and rod bolts hold up. Can you go 60/650/700/750 hp? Hell yea! Are you risking it? Absolutely. But with more power comes more supporting mods like forging and your complete driveline and suspension including tires! Can these motors take it? Oh yea. But til when?
One thing that can take all the abuse in these motors are the CRANKS! They've been in the 1k range lots of times.

That's just how I see it, heat soak? Get a better radiator, heat is good to a certain level.

For those of you interested or on the fence. Nitrous outlet has a 10/15% off and UMI has all their stuff 10% off, just look for the vendors that offer free shipping.

The drag strip is like sniffing glue, it's cheap, it's a decent buzz, it doesn't last long and they are all the same.
Road racing is like China White Heroin, the buzz is stronger, the high lasts for hours, it's extremely addictive and they are all different.
I can't wait for my next
Track fix.

As Garrison said, tq and wheel hop are what kill the rear end and axles. It also depends on how you abuse it. You can make a 800whp stock internal engine live if you don't beat on it. Alternately, like Litle posted, you can blow up with simple bolt-ons. It's all in the tune and how you treat it.
