Lol I guess he expected you to be like "ughh someone else touched it. I don't want it anymore..." Yea. If my car gets stolen I expect onstar to shut it down before they get too far and do too much damage. Insurance can take care of the Clorox wipes to re sanitize my car... Anyways I've been paying the "special" of $150/year for the past couple of years so it's not too bad. Less than a month's cell bill. Plus with the app you can still send directions to the car.

That is like saying your cell phone service should be free because you bought the phone. Not sure where you think it should be a free service.

Does OnStar have a backup battery? If not, the collision that resulted in the battery being disconnected would still not been helpful. Maybe it does, just asking if anyone knows for sure.

The collision sensors would read impact when the airbags deployed. This will relay an emergency response signal to on star, and when they cannot connect to your vehicle to confirm an accident, they will dispatch emergency personal.

I just canceled mine. I found I was never using it. I loved the nav when I first got the car, but I have google maps on my phone and that's free. I carried the emergency response package for the 2nd year of owning the car, but I really don't need it. My dad pays for the family to have AAA so it's a little redundant for me.

If it was a lot cheaper, I might keep it around, but I find it a little expensive and redundant for me.

You should check with tow companies and find out who can tow on all roads you travel on. I got stuck on a toll road when I had onstar and when I called for gm assistance they told me I had a 2 hour wait because only 1 company they used was allowed on that road. When the tow truck showed up we got to talking and he said AAA gets priority and if they called he would've been there in 20 mins but since gm went thru thier list it took them over an hour to find someone and than I had to wait for them to fulfill the AAA calls first. I dropped onstar and got AAA for me and my wife which covers my motorcycle and a trailer if I needed and allows tows up to a few hundred miles. Plus now I have a nav unit with live traffic and a cell phone with 911. The only thing nice is the ability for onstar to unlock your car and disable if stolen.

I love it, personally, but I do a lot of exploring out here and don't know my way around most areas yet...not to mention I'll often be at work when I find out I have to go somewhere unknown, nice to be able to go online at work, send directions to my car and when I get in it's ready to go.

If you are in the boonies, and this is a concern for you, seems like the Safe and Sound service is your ticket. No navigation though.
