My thoughts originally had me buying an old police car at auction and putting the lights back on it. I tossed that idea after some research on the internet and I came across a Photo shopped version of a 2010 Camaro police car. I was hooked right away but I knew I could do it better. I had some requirements though.

First of all it still had to look like a camaro when i was done and I didn't want to add so much junk on it that it was cheesed out. Second it couldn't effect the fuel economy or top speed of the car. Roof Light bars don't like 155mph+ and I dont ever want to limit the capabilities of the car by adding a mod.

My first purchase was a go industry push bar Part #38010 for the 2010 camaro. Around 450+ dollars and its about 60 pounds I think. Not sure now. They shipped it fast but didn't ship the brackets and I was very sad. Since I was nervous on what this was going to look like I was angry I couldn't get started right away. A week later I got the parts I was missing.

Ok the first step I did was to use you tube and watch a video on how the front end comes off......

I will ad some pictures now and pick it up after this post...

Picture 1 and 2 is it mocked up on a jack stand so see how it might look.

Picture 3 is what came in the box. Oh look no mounting bracket.. Guess i will just wait a week for them to do their job right and send them out.... grrr

picture 4 5 6 are the car jacked up.

part 2

Now that the car was apart I learned a few things. Be very careful to take the wheel well bolts and brackets off. There are some plastic clips that the front fascia clips into that are very delicate. The instructions are spot on and the only things I will tell you is after the fascia is off unloosen the correct bumper bolts and hang the lower bracket one by one. Leave everything kind of loose and mock up the whole thing with the bumper cover off. Take a level and rest it on the push bar while you tweak the brackets and then tighten them down with the level still in place. Its very important you do not put everything together until you make sure its level. Once you feel good about it being level take off the push bar. You will end up with long brackets and it looks funny as hell. Slide the front fascia back on an you will notice on the RS model you have to cut out 2 black grill supports. Not a big deal if you plan to keep the push bar on for a long time. I cut mine out with a small hacksaw in about 10 sec.

Place the push bar on the brackets and put lock tight on all the bolts and snug it down. If you did everything right you will have it looking perfectly level with the nose of the car. If not you are screwed because to realign it the nose has to come off unless you wanted to put a washer under the push bar bolt holes.

The pictures below show the bar on and being balanced.

I will see if I can find some more pictures but that's about it. I noticed the wheel feel a little less light so to speak. You can feel the extra weight on there but after a few days you wont notice anything. The tires were stock and needed to be replaced anyhow so I wasn't worried about tire wear without getting the alignment checked. I would however take it in to be checked if you notice any pulling. The car did not noticeably drop with extra weight but if you feel anything changed there are a ton of after market options to tweak the front end. Overall I added the push bar and drove away. 5 months later and I see no noticeable wear other than the edges from hard cornering.

Keep in mind if you do this find some lights and rack them right away because it looks stupid without anything on there. My coworkers didn't have the imagination I had when I told them that I had lights coming and so on. Once I built it out I surprisingly get people who no nothing about cars telling me they like it. After all this work there was no way I was putting auto zone lights on it for my fog lights. There really was only one choice for me. Ridgid Industries D2 Duallys. They use only a few amps per light head and when they are both on they are devastatingly bright. About 360 usd a pair but they are brighter than the RS HID's on High. You will not be sorry. I use the lowers for accident scene lighting because I can turn off the car and let them run off the battery for about 30 mins a pop. Once I get the yellow top optima I can run all the leds off the battery and save fuel.

Thats really about it. Any questions fire away I have got plenty of time.

Forgot to add this. I thought about how to add lights to the dash with out terrible looking suction cups sticking to the window. I ended using the set screw mounting assembly and a custom bracket that worked better than expected. This gave it a clean look and it almost looks like it is floating in the front window. Came out fantastic.

What is the website - if you remember - where you bought the majority of the parts for this project?

http://www.goindustries.com for push bar

http://www.fleetsafety.com/ for police lights

http://www.rigidindustries.com/ for the super high output fog lights.

Wires and liquid electrical tape from lowes and auto zone.

Update. No real wear on the tires from adding the bar and its been about 6 months. I did have to get it realigned though. All in all if you need a place to put lights for public service and don't want to drill the roof this is a great idea. Knowing what I know now I would still do it all over again. Bar is wearing well and I wax the metal and put rubber conditioner on it because i am anal. No issues found.

I'm liking this- I'm thinking A piller spot light and magnetic mount lightbar would kick it up a few notches.

Thx for the comments. I will tell you when I bolted it on with no lights on it people freaked out. So much so that my friends at work... ran up to my office and said wtf a hole did you wreck you car for. Being on a military base these guys are brutally honest.

I did feel like I had a big scarlet letter painted on my head and all the comments were negative.

Once I racked the lights and put the wig wagging LED fog-lights on the car it instantly looked awesome.

The lights gave a purpose for the bars existence and then everyone wanted to know if I had any nose dip when braking and how was the handling.

The plain fact is the camaro is such a heavy pig 50 more pounds is np at all. I did get the front tires checked for alignment and then I didn't even know it was on there. You can feel it and you cant see if from the drivers seat. The hood blocks it 100%

All in all I really had a 180 on this. I knew I didn't want to drill my roof and add drag. I had a moment of doubt when the bar was naked but I knew in my mind it would be exactly what I needed.

Now mind you I know there are people that would never do that to this car and that's ok. It all unbolts and there will be absolutely no damage to the car when i sell it. In a day I could have it to stock.

Now on the flip side driving around..... Here's my experiences...

Being military I have the utmost respect for the good cops out there but I got a few guys pull me over until they learned why I had it on the car.

One guy pulled me over for my tinted license plate cover and then started asking me about what color my lights were. At the time my red light permit was being help up by the State of GA so I said they were all clear. Which they were of course. I explained that I worked for the EMA of Macon and he suggested I put a sticker on the car somewhere that he can see without getting out. I sunk one behind the tint so it wouldn't look ugly.

Yesterday I rode out to AL for fireworks and my Valentine v1 detector picked up a few guys running radar. My speed wasn't ungodly but this one guy in a black caprice clocked me about 10 over with instant on radar and as I got up to him I just knew I was done. He looked at me - toggled his light bar and gave me the thumbs up... Guess he was a camaro lover. lol

All in all just beware you might get tagged out and questioned on this bar. It not illegal to own but make sure you can justify your actions to an officer that stops you.

My suggestion would be to see if the local police/EMA/fre department have any vol jobs or reserve jobs. If they do all the perks fall on you and it just feels better to know your 100% legal.

Beware though about 70% of the people who you get behind will slow down and it takes FOREVER to get any where.

But it is a nicer world around me now. Everyone uses their blinker. Drives slower and lets me in any traffic flow when I pull out into traffic.

Well that's it guys.... Good luck and be careful.

This product is excellent and I can recommend.

If anyone wants to see a video of the car lit up at night with everything going just ask. I have been meaning to do that.
