Oil Brands and Detailed Specs
As I work toward planning my JRE480 cam package self-install, I have been concerned about oil brands, specs, etc. While researching the subject, I came across a very interesting post on another forum that listed many different brands with detailed specs. I believe the poster is a petroleum expert and his findings are from personal testing. I compared his findings with PQIA (Petroleum Quality Institute of America, http://www.pqiamerica.com), and they were very close, though not exact. To me, this lends more credibility to the fact that this guy did the testing himself. This post, and the link above, are very good resources, IMHO. Posted May 22, 2012:

Thanks for posting the detailed info.
I did similar research and decided to use Pennzoil Ultra 5w-30 in my LS3. Had oil analysis done a couple of months ago and results were excellent. Fortunately my dealer offers Pennzoil Ultra and their oil change price is reasonable. |

I don't think PU is dexos approved, if they even matters!

It does matter to GM, but I personally voided my warranty with a tune. Better oil is better oil.
