Vortech Supercharger
I'm considering buying the Vortech kit for my '13 SS. The complete kit is only for the '10 and '11, the kit available for this years model is a tuner kit, without any fuel management upgrades. I have never majorly upgraded a car before, and certainly never dealt with any forced induction. With this "tuner kit" will I need professional installation and tuning? Also, will I need to upgrade anything else to protect the car? Everything is stock with the exception of my K&N air filter.

Nothing "has" to be done.
Bolting it up on a completely stock car will warrant decent gains. Just consider at least injectors, bap, and a proper tune. It is recommended that you install headers and an exhaust for optimal gains for a boosted application. From there, heads, cam, meth, fuel system, more boost, etc. options are endless. And if you don't have alot of knowledge working on cars, it would be wise having a shop install and tune it. |

the tuner kit requires that you source the fuel componets yourself such as injectors and you will need to have it tuned due to the tuner kit does not come with the sct handheld with the base vortech tune. The 10-11 complete kits will fit however Vortech does not have an updated tune for the 12-13s. Ask me how I know. If I was you I'd get the tuner kit, 65psi injectors or larger, ZL1 fuel pump with ADM FPCM or if you don't plan on cranking the boost get a MSD BAP. Look hard at the V3 kit compared to the ECS kit. If I had to do it over I would go ECS. Way better number down lower in the rpm range and their customer support is awesome. I'm not too disappointed with the V3 but I'll be stepping up to the YSI in the near future since it will bolt into the same brackets. My V3 made 565rwhp and 498rwtq on 9-10psi and 607rwhp and 525rwtq on 12 psi. Both pulls stopped at 6200rpm and I was running 22's.

Is the factory Dual Mode exhaust system not enough to handle the added power? It's almost a $2000 option, you would think...

It will handle the base kit just fine but your numbers will be lower. Long tube headers/no cats really wake these cars up. I had ported TB and Intake manifold, Lts, no cats and 3in exhaust before I went with the V3.

Look into turbos. Turns out to be cheaper, more power, and drives better.

Talk to any of the ECS dealers. Their base kit uses the NOVI 1500SL which is equivalent to a Vortech V2 T-Trim, (825+ hp) but self-lubricated. Vortech manufacture both Vortech and Paxton, so there really isn't much to decide with, but the ECS base kit will support more power than V3, no offense 2012REDSS. It is also upgradeable to the Ysi, which is something I'm also looking into myself. You'll a lot of people arguing turbo vs. S/C and which brand to use. No matter what you choose, you'll be happy either way. Going FI is always a fun decision once completed.

V3 has nothing to do with the size of the blower. The trim does. I have an Si trim on a stock cammed L99 with headers and fueling mods and am very happy with it. I'm getting 12 psi, still running the restrictor (ground down some) and not over spinning the blower. There is alot more to be had. I'm betting I could put in a moderate cam, remove the restrictor, over spin it a bit and still make 12+ psi. Not saying the Novi 1500 or a T trim isn't the way to go, I'm saying the Si trim in an ECS kit should not be overlooked. It's alot more than an S trim (actually closer to a T trim) and is super efficient. And it also can be swapped outfit a YSI should you ever want to go north of 800.
Matt of FSP actually sold me a used V3 Si trim along with a new ECS kit. Saved me a chunk of change!

What makes the difference between the Si and T trim is the impeller, the inlet diameter, and just some light variations between the volute.

vortech or ECS...either is good for sure. For fuel I recommend the same as said above, you'll need a local shop to tune/install if you are doing a tuner kit from vortech. 65lb+ injectors plus ADMfpcm and ZL1 fuel pump.
