That would work in an ideal world, but it's been my experience that every time I've politely talked to a neighbor about an issue with their pet the response was either a dull stare or open hostility. Responsible, thoughtful people have already taken steps to make sure their pets aren't a nuisance to others and the rest absolutely don't care. I'd put money on this cat's owner giving The Dull Stare and not understanding the problem since it's "just a car."

A method for training your dog to stay off the couch when you're not home is using a high traffic carpet runner. Put the carpet side down with the spiky "carpet grippers" pointing up. I don't see why it wouldn't also be deterrent for a cat on a car. It's very uncomfortable, but won't do physical harm (I know, I've stepped on one barefoot before.) Check your hardware store - it should be sold by the foot.

Trap it, then take it over to the neighbor. Tell them "I found your kitty. Looks like he got away!" Smile, and leave. Next time, take it to the animal shelter. Problem solved.

If you don't want to go that route, a Super Soaker is a BLAST! Just don't squirt it when it's on the car.

Paintballs HURT!

+1 on the supersoaker.

Another alternative that is death free is a low powered airsoft. They sting but you don't break skin. I've been shot by the same airsoft I used to discourage a nuissance dog from crapping in my bark-so I don't feel bad about using it.
---
If it were me, the order of escalation would be:
Talk to neighbor > Supersoaker > Animal Control > Then I'd have to see what's next. Don't try to poison it please though.

The first night I brought my brand new Mazda 6 home I found cat scratches on my hood. The next day I seen my neighbors 2 fat cats sun bathing on it. I went to the neighbor and I was nice when I ask could they keep their cats off my car because they have already scratched it. She said they are not house cats and we have rabbits inside. I asked her if she wanted to have my hood painted and she said prove it's my cats. She came to my house about three days latter and said have you seen my cats? I said nope, she said if you have done something to them I will call the law and I said prove it. We did not hurt the cats but did take them to the shelter. She must not have called to check there because we moved a year latter and never saw them anymore. You really have to be careful depending on what type of neighbor you have. You would hate to get your tires cut over a stupid cat so I hope they are decent people. I would rather put the cat up then have to pay for a new paint job, but some people are stupid. Good luck.

1. Cayanne Pepper - sprinkled liberally around the car... cat gets it on it's fur...licks it off...cat gets the message quickly. 2) Moth balls - cats hate the smell of moth balls. Put some in a sack or panty hose around the car and they will stay away. 3) I hear this last one works but I would be scared it might f up the window film. Put kerosene on a rag and wipe the windows and glass with it...the smell of the kerosene will keep the cat away. I hope 1 of these works for you.

You guys are ridiculous.

On the other hand, thanks for giving me work to do. All these cats are going to need veterinarians after you're all done with your senseless violence just because you're too lazy to walk next door and ask them to keep their cat off your car.

I dont think anyone was condoning mindless violence to any animal. When ever they suggested anything close to that, you can read it was tongue and cheek.

I have got some excellent idead though. I like the mothballs/pepper idea!

Buy this convertible cat scratcher above and place it next to your car at night.. Give the cat a second toy to scratch at..

Yes, except for the one poster who admitted to using poisoned cat food in an attempt to murder his neighbor's cat.

There are reasons we have animal cruelty laws in this country. For some people, their cats are like their children. I'm sure you'd be angry too if I threatened to poison or shoot your kids for wandering onto my property.
