GM recommends 5w30... a lot of people in hot weather use 10w30. But I don`t think your car will explode, just wait for an more in deph answer for you 0w40 oil use. Also Watch your oil pressure!!! Changing viscosity does change pressure that is the most important thing! If you can`t find M1 why not use castrol 5w30 or any other reputable brand that is 5w30 or 10w30, most important thing is to be a 100% synthetic oil, not just a marketing phrase like "fully synthetic" etc!

Any dexos1 5W-30 oil should be just fine.
I no longer have my 2011 ss, but if I recall correctly, this same note that is in my 2012 owners manual was in my 2011 owners manual that specifically states not to use 10w-40.

Considering that you likely still have plenty of powertrain warranty, I would stay away from 10w-40 just in case.

Here's a link to a gm sight that lists dexos certified oil manufacturers and brands
http://www.gmdexos.com/licensedbrand...sedbrands.html

Specification When dexos™ Oil
Not Available (V8 Engine)
This vehicle's engine requires a
special oil meeting GM Standard
GM4718M. Oils meeting this
standard may be identified as
synthetic. However, not all synthetic
oils will meet this GM standard.
Use only an oil that meets GM

Standard GM4718M.

Oils meeting these requirements
should have the starburst symbol on
the container. This symbol indicates
that the oil has been certified by the
American Petroleum Institute (API).
When adding oil to maintain
engine oil level, oil meeting GM
Standard GM4718M might not be
available. You can add substitute
oil designated SAE 5W-30 with the
starburst symbol at all temperatures.
Substitute oil not meeting GM
Standard GM4718M should not
be used for an oil change.
Viscosity Grade
SAE 5W-30 is the best viscosity
grade for the vehicle. Do not
use other viscosity oils such as
SAE 10W‐30, 10W‐40, or 20W-50.

Madikim, running Mobil 1 0w-40 will not hurt your vehicle, especially in the climate you live in. Since you can't find Mobil 1 5w-30 the 0w-40 would be a good choice. Since you are in a different country some items are not widely available like here in the U.S.

Just to see how it would do I ran AMSOIL's 0w-40 in our 2011 Acadia and it did a better job at protecting the engine than the 5w-30 according to my used oil analysis tests.

I've used the dexos1 5W-30 and the Castrol 5W-30 I'm not saying they are bad but the problem is for some reason is the dexos1 we have at the dealer which lives for like 10,000km ( 6213miles ) i find it losing its thickness and becomes more like water when i reach 7,000km (4349mi), and the castrol with time for some reason it became less soo i had to add like a liter.

Doh! My bad. Owners manual still says not to use other viscosity oils.

Read This, the first number is cold weight, 0W may not offer cold protection IMHO too thin alowing parts not to be lubricated properly, the lower the viscosity, the less the load the oil can support at the bearing on the crankshaft. The higher the viscosity, the better the load it can support. Even this, however, has a trade-off, since the higher the viscosity, the more the drag at the bearing, and hence, potential power loss, or increased fuel consumption. whereas a 5W may offer a little more, stay away from 40 as the upper number, its the hot viscocity and its too vicious, use the 30. So stay with factory recommidation for best results for now.

the owners manuel says DO NOT USE ANY OTHER WEIGHT OIL I think its there for a reason, not often when a manufacturer makes it that clear.

No one knows more than Bob on the subject... http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/motor-oil-101/

The greatest confusion is because of the way motor oils are labeled. It is an old system and is confusing to many people. I know the person is confused when they say that a 0W-30 oil is too thin for their engine because the old manual says to use 10W-30. This is wrong.
