Tinted/blacked out tail lights

I bought a used set of tail lights and added black base coat to the clear coat (basicly tinting the clear, yet maintaining high gloss and keeping the automotive clear coat durability) and shot 4 coats on them. Let it cure, hand rub, then install with gloss black base/clear painted bezels to top them off. Here is some pics.

Just got pulled over for it and got a fix-it ticket, here in Ca. Was told that the lights were bright enough but that it blocked the reflectors. Says it's dangerous especially on a dark colored car

Squillo, it isn't illegal here in Hawaii as long as the lights are visible from 200 feet (pretty sure on that distance). I had the statue on them. I have had mine on for about 4 years now and never been stopped by HPD. Most safety places may tell you they are illegal though. I pulled mine off the first time I got a safety done (ewa beach Gemini). Then right after they put sticker on I put the tint right back on.
I got mine from headlight armor.

Mines the darkest tint bigwormgraphix.com offers. No issues and I've had a lot of cops follow me.

You are now in the system as having tints....don't get rear ended before you get it fixed!
