I've been there many times with a broken car, it's a pain. Don't go nuts with the build you don't need a forged crank IMO.
![]() Cam, pistons, rods, head studs, springs all that stuff alone will eat into your mod budget.

I honestly think the rods and pistons are turning out to be the cheapest part of the whole rebuild too haha. But i have gotten a ton of feedback from a lot of people which is great. And its helping me line everything up right were i want to go. My first purchase is going to be the rods, pistons, ARP studs and bolts all around. That way i can start getting her back together. And then next up will be the cam and valvetrain. because i can always swap that while the motor is back in the car.

Cam and valvesprings I'd do while coming together, I bet your car would like a set of better springs.

But springs are a must. I am guilty of having a shifter here and there reach 6900 rpm something had to be floating around there. lol

Did any of your pistons have little crescent marks from the valves?
Yeah I'd do a mild cam too, helps it work a little better. You picked the engine guy? Did they recommend main studs?

Nope, the piston didn't touch the valves or the plug, and the only thing that did was the chunk of the piston that came off left a little scratch on my exhaust valve but that'll clean right off.
And I am rebuilding the motor myself. I was planning on taking it to OPEL to get machined a little bit. But he didn't mention anything like that but I was planning on spending the extra coin and do it all around. sent from my galaxy s3. that would explain the errors.

Pro Stock John,
I have a couple of questions that I think based on your experience you can help me with, if you dont mind. I have a 2013 L99 with Kooks 1 7/8 headers and hi-flow cats, CAI, tune, and 295-45-18 Nitto NT05 tires I run at 34PSI at the track. I have tried other techniques but I just do a light burnout. I leave the line at 1,000 RPM and mat the throttle. Best 60' is 1.940, with 1.96 to 1.99 a typical average for 6 runs. I don't feel like i have any tire slip. Local strip is 1,000'. Best 1/8 is 8.34 at 87.06. Do you think my car would be more consistant with 555R's? Do you think my car would be quicker with 555R's? Does your car run better with a full tank of gas or 1/4 tank? What width wheels and air pressure are you running with your 555R's? How hot do they have to be? Thanks!!!! |

J, so is the plan to go .010, .020, .030 over, something like that? That's cool you'd assemble yourself, I've never done that. Will Opel (Bill or Ted?) have reccomendations for ring gap?
ihad, so I would say: ... I always run with 1/4 to 1/3 tank, I don't like to add weight ... I went a string of 1.85's with my Nitto 555R's, which are 275/40/20 on 20x9's. ... I ran them at 20-26 psi, but it depended on the track and how well it hooks. ... If you can mat the gas running regular tires, aired at 34 psi, that's pretty nice, what track you go to? I will say that when I ran my car at Norwalk instead of at GLD, Norwalk hooked like crazy and I had to air my tires up, only time ever, to 30 psi otherwise the car would just about bog off the hit haha. With the local track, I have like a 2 hour window after they open where the track is okay, but I've yet to experience great traction like I did at Norwalk. I plan to try NLR or Byron soon. ... Car would always be more consistent with drag radials. ... I was running 20" 555R's, now running 18" NT05R's.

Thinking about heading out to NLR for some test hits this Sunday if you're interested... haven't been there in nearly 10 years, but Byron has events going on this weekend.
Paul...

If you go for that goal you mentioned, I'd run race gas at that boost level, or E85.
