I'll have to go back out tonight and see, but I thought mine was fairly good at night (it's been a while since driving it at night). I hope I can get a pic of it then. Stay tuned...

Adjusting your mirrors doesn't solve the problem as there are huge blind spots. That said, I don't rely on the backup sensors, I look and the sensors act as a safety net - and they have saved me more than once from obstacles that I was unable to see from the driver's seat. |

and that is not coming from a hater. I LOVE my Camaro and it will become a 700+hp monster weekend car before it's all over and expect to have it sitting around in 15+ years in the back of my garage for weekends and track days. It isnt going anywhere. but to flat say that a few adjustments and everything is "perfect" is a flat over site of the cars biggest flaw. The car even after owning it for 7 months is the biggest feeling little car I have ever owned. it has more blind spots than a semi. It is about as fun backing one as a large truck as well. the front angles as well make parking lot handling a nightmare as you cannot see over the front right fender nor how far it is to the wall due to the hood design.

I'm not sure how many responses in this thread have said that everything is "perfect" (as you keep repeating) after adjusting the mirrors, but I don't remember reading any. No car has perfect visibility. There are always blind spots. Coming from driving a couple of different Hondas, which have pretty good sight lines, the Camaro took some adjusting to. But I can tell you that after properly adjusting my mirrors so that as things disappear from my rearview mirror they appear in the side mirrors, and as they disappear from the side mirrors they appear in my peripheral vision, that the C-pillar blind spots are essentially negated. In fact, I've gotten so used to this configuration that driving the other cars now is uncomfortable with the mirrors adjusted the "old way," with the side of the car just appearing in the edge of the side mirror. As far as the camera goes, it is significantly better than the one in my wife's Odyssey. If they removed the markers from the new models, well, that is just dumb. Don't know why they would do that; I find them very useful. The ultrasonic sensors I find only marginally useful, but I haven't had occasion to have an object behind me for them to detect. They consistently detect my garage door frame, though. I have no more issues with forward visibility than I have had with other cars. Going from my Ford Explorer to my CR-V, I found the Honda's mirror to be more obtrusive, but the Camaro's is about the same. Maybe it's because I drive large vehicles with poor rearward visibility for a living, but the Camaro just isn't that bad, even backing out of parking spaces (for which I find the camera very helpful). But none of this is really true or logical; I'm just a fanboy spouting off.

I find the backup camera kind of crappy without guidelines but it is useful for backing up to say a parking curb as I can see when to stop. My problem is I am always catching the rubber lip under the front air dam on stuff as I am always closer to things than I think. Yeah the visibility is pretty bad out of this car but it makes me be more careful generally too so I can manage it
I agree with OP that the backup sensors don't always beep when they should so I don't trust them anyways because of that. Cam |
