Steering wheel Whine
Hey everyone...............
I finally got my SS in for the airbag sensor alert to be fixed. Also had a whine or zip noise in the steering column when turning the wheel. Turns out I need a new steering gear? WTH? At least it is under warranty still. 2011 w/ 22k miles I wonder what kind of Hoopty the rental agency will be giving me. for my two day wait to get my baby back. Cheers from Portland |

Had the same issue. Changed the steering gear. Keep in mind that after the change there may be some vibration while turning. They just need to get the air out which of the steering system. No real way to do that other than turning the wheel back all the way the left till it stops and all the way to the right. That fixed it for me

When I turn my '11 steering wheel it sounds like a bunch of little clicks or like its forcing two pieces together. Anyone know?

Mine sounded like that when it got hot outside, when if was cooler, it was a whine. I took it in and they changed the gears.

I have a minor "whine" or slight vibration in my steering wheel as well. Brought it in under warranty and they said the vibration was caused by my tires. I had just replaced the original tires with the exact same Pirellies so I know that was BS. It doesn't feel like gears per se. Someone told me it could be a rubber boot that has dried out or needs lubrication. Who knows? It's not bad enough to bother as it is hardly noticeable except at very low speeds.

Mine 12' SS in the shop for the same thing, going on 12 days. They have now replaced the steering gear but it still makes noise. Very dissapointing for a 40K car. It started about 12,000 miles. I now have 17K
