Good Dyno Tune Price

What is a reasonable price for a dyno tune? I realize this may differ slightly by region, but what are you guys seeing?

I was quoted $800 by one shop in town and $500 by another. Both equally reputable, so why a $300 swing? Both do the work in house, so I'm a little confused.

Thanks in advance,
Dave

One is trying to rip you off, the other is just trying to make some money.

My local speed shop (in-house tunes) is offering a special Camaro or Vette tune for $350...

Sounds like $500 is high but within the ballpark, but I am sure many folks can weigh in on other regional prices.

My personal tuner gives me a sweet deal at $250 but charges others $400-$500.

For the tech savvy, can't the "tuner" send over said tune code via internet and you can do it yourself for about $200 or so?

My tuner does the following (prices are in Canadian and Retail prices I pay much less):
Base - 450
Boltons - 550
Boost - 650

It all depends on the tuner.

Is this a competent tune though? Am I going to have to worry about something being slightly out of proper tune and ending up with engine damage, as each engine is slightly different?

It's called remote tuning, but you still have to have a way to flash the tune into the PCM, and that's going to cost too. Plus you then need to data log and go back and forth to perfect the tune. Best just to pony up and get a custom dyno tune. It will take less time and hassle and will most likely cost about the same in the long run.

Dyno Tunes are billed at 225.00 Per hour, It can range from 1-4 Hours depending on the Severity of the build, the more stuff you change the more stuff needs to be changed in the tune.

Proper tuning Takes time, Time X Labor rate.

The bigger question you should be asking is What is the Tuners Experience, background, and Reputation.

Just don't ask his Friends.

Talk with Customers that have no connection to the shop, see if they are 100% satisfied or if there are any

There is a lot more to tuning than the Peak numbers.

If you not satisfied with the answers Don't Lay down your Cash, Hold off and do more research.

Ask around about JRE custom Remote Tuning, I have tuned over 1400 Gen5 Camaros and thousands of other makes and models in my career.

Purchase an SCT tuner from me and the first tune for simple bolt ons is FREE.

Then continue to purchase your Parts from JRE and All Tuning for the parts purchased are FREE.

Ted.

Mine cost me $800 but the tuner guy is a real pro at it.
He first dyno'ed the car, then made changes to the tune then dyno'ed again. Repeated this process for total of 4 times it was on the Dyno.

I just got mine retuned for 91 gas, (was tuned on 93) and he charged me $250 and then I paid the shop $50 for dyno time. My first tune was $450. Most of the time, its all in who you know! My car runs significantly better on the $250 tune!
