buying my first camaro. help!
so im going to be getting my first car, and lucky enough to be getting a camaro! I really want a manual because i feel like ill enjoy it a lot more and overall have a better driving experience...but I'm not that great, ive only driven a manual for a few hours before (my cousin showed me). At the dealer they found me a 1LT in IOM/manual transmission/with nav. However it isnt in their lot but they can get it swapped for me. They also offered me another deal from their own lot because they can give me a better price.. so for only $5 more (39months). They can give me a 1LT in blue ray metallic with a power sunroof, navigation, silver stripes AND the rs package but it is an automatic transmission. Was wondering if anyone thought that driving a manual transmission is worth giving up all the extras I am getting if i took the automatic 1LT from the dealers lot.

Why limit yourself to two choices at one dealership? In your area there should be a multitude of V6 & V8 models to choose from, be patient and get what you want.

this dealership has given be the best prices by far out of all the dealerships ive visited. Im also getting a 2013 and getting a good deal on them since the 2014 ones are just coming in so im also limited as to what is available in the 2013 models because they dont take orders anymore

There is less demand for V6 manuals than automatics so dealers won't have as many on the lots to choose from and make it more difficult to find your "dream" car. Definitely test drive a manual before you buy one.
If this will be a daily driver in stop and go traffic you might prefer the automatic. You don't give much detail about the cars you are comparing (new or used, year, mileage, etc) so hard to know which is a better deal. I agree that you should look around a bit and compare options and prices. Web sites like KBB and Edmunds can help you calculate reasonable prices for cars with specific options to help you spot better and worse deals. Also research financing options in your area before buying a car. Figure out what interest rates are available and what you can afford for payments, taxes, insurance, and gas. Then figure out how much you can spend for a car and shop for a specific price. Maybe even get prequalified for a loan so you know what financing you qualify for. I always compare the final "out the door" price of cars when shopping. Some dealers will try to hide a high car price by talking about monthly payments. If you know what you can afford before you get there it will help you avoid bad deals. Good luck with your purchase! |

If you are set on getting a v6 might as well get the auto with more options.

I did give up some options I would have liked for the manual LS3, glad that I did!

The auto trans. Is a $1000.00 plus option..if the dealership can sell you that and all the other options mentioned for less than you can get a manual minus the options.....something's fishy.....get online and find what you want ,,,go get it

Before you out of the manual consider the fact that, to me, the manual feels much more peppy than the automatic for the v6. I actually thought the auto with the v6 was doggy; uninspiring. The others can tell you the specific gear ratios but they are different for the auto car vs. the manual car, with the advantage going to the manual car. If you are going with the 6, I would recommend you test out the differences in how the cars feel and you might be surprised.

For my LT I got the automatic, however it is my daily driver and I am in a lot of stop and go traffic. I use my car to visit clients throughout the day so it's not like I just go to the office and back home every day. I have to say, however, that I miss the control and the feel of having a manual transmission. Being in control of your driving experience to that level is simply a lot more fun.

Maybe consider resale / trade in value. If more of the 6 cyl crowd likes automatic transmissions, might make it easier to sell or trade in down the road.

So im actually leasing it. Im in college and a lease is all i can really afford now. Total out of pocket expense for the manual with nav is $13,500 and for the auto with rs/nav/sunroof is $13,695. The RS package does look pretty sick, i feel like that's what's tugging me towards the auto as much as i want the manual.
