The $100.00 is for just a plain old black piece of sheet metal. The MAF sensor does attach to the system and is connected properly. I will take Hennessey's advice and run it for a few more hundred miles. I will also install my much cheaper home made heat shield. My 2005 Rustang GT required a tune with the addition of a CAI, but I have read that the Camaros and Challengers don't. If things don't improve within a reasonable amount of time and mileage, I may try to re-tune. MTI Motorsports is right down the street from me, so I may also talk to them. I'll let everyone know how it goes. Thanks.

Herkman try this.
Make sure the MAF is connected and not damaged then disconnect the battery. Reset you MPG. Run a tank through and see where your at.

$500 for a tube, filter and box? Wow. And I thought parts for the GTO were expensive.

has anyone tried a Jet MAF sensor? I'm installing a Hennessey CAI and they reuse the stock MAF. I'm wondering if it needs a higher flow MAF.

When I installed a Mopar CAI and Mangaflow exhaust on my Challenger I lost MPG the first tank. I did disconnect the battery terminal to reset the ECM.
Now 3 tanks later I'm up about 1MPG over where I was stock. My last tank averaged 19.2 MPG and that's 100% city driving. Not bad for 400 or so horses. |

I put a CAI on my truck, Lost 4mpg on that thing. I took it off and sold it. I didnt even notice an hp gain. Im a novice when it comes to engines. But what happens inside your engine is fire, and with fire you have two things air, material (wood, gas, etc.) When you force more air into something what does it do? Eats more wood, so this leads me to beleive gas consumption would not get better. With that said my neighbor has a roush mustang, he added a 600 dollar custom intake made the car run like crap and eat gas more.
From what ive heard GM's intake is back on the drawing board because it didnt do anything. all this leads me to think that CAI's are not worth anything. And I would agree that 100 bucks for the heat shield is rediculous. include it in the initial cost of the camaro, add 25 bucks or something.

You have to give the computer time to learn. If you put on a CAI and notice a 4-5 MPG loss within minutes and take it back off then you are defeating the purpose of letting the computer learn how much air is going to be coming into the engine.
CAI is usually the first mod for a reason. The better an engine can breathe the more HP it can make easier. |

Something was wrong if you lost 4 MPG with a CAI. It wasnt the CAI. Having had put a CAI on every single car Ive owned, the worst mileage return Ive got was a gain of .6 MPG best was 2.4 MPG.

from my experience and neighbors I think the CAI is witch craft unless you marry it up with a bunch of other things, and that point I dont think its going to give you anything its just going to help the other upgrades work correctly. But if you got .6mpg better and assuming your filling up once a week thats about 10 extra miles a week and will save you one gallon every two weeks and two gallons a month for 5 bucks a month 60 bucks a year. And your average intake is 300 bucks, that would take you 5 years to break even, even if you cut that in half two a half years. And from ive seen minimal experience and from what ive read HP fluctuactes from even what manufactures quote. To me why is so many companies making them for 300-500 bucks a month, because its an easy buck and the cost to manufacture them has to be under 100 bucks

if you lost 4, then went back to stock and only gained back 2. something is wrong with the truck. not the CAI
