Interesting read : oils and viscosity
This is an article I ran across. I figured a guy who owns over 2 million dollars in cars has a few things to think about when it comes to oil
AND now I am more confused see link belowhttp://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/faq...=haas_articles |

Not confused one bit. Looks to me that the statement, most oils are pretty much the same (in same classification), works for me. I have always said, when in doubt, use what it came with for normal driving.
Very interesting read, thanks

Basically how I read it was that all oils don't protect well under normal operating temps. and that's true its noted that most engine wear comes during the time the motor is trying to reach normal operating temps. So be easy on your motor until its warmed up. But it goes on to say that basically in synthetic motor oils that 0w-30, 5w-30, 10w-30 or whatever ?w-30 that they all have the same lubrication and wear protection above 100 degrees or at normal operating temps. But the lower the prefix e.x. 0w-30 is better at protecting the motor at under 100 degrees so you get less wear during start up because the oil flows better when its cold and lubricates better but has the same lubrication and wear prevention as 10w-30 during normal operating temps. So basically 0w-30 would be better for the normal driver even the ones that take it to the strip because its the hotter oil temps that need the thicker oil as in ?w-40 or ?w-50 because the last number indicates the need for the added high temp protection (over 275 degrees oil temp) that the 40 and 50 weight oils have.
