Is there any benifit to warming your car up before you drive off? How long do you wait before you start driving everytime you start your car?

I'm a start & go person normally. However with the Camaro it takes a few seconds to slowly back out of the garage & make sure the garage door closes all the way - so I'd say 45-60 seconds before I leave the house. Then I'm in a subdivision with quite a few kids so I take it 25mph at the highest for 3-4 blocks.

Yes make sure you warm your car up first. The cold start is where the most stress is on the engine

Start it, tune in radio....drive, there is no reason to wait for warm up.....do a google search.....

Let it warm up.

Some people might consider waiting until it reaches operating temps a little extreme, but it's what I do everyday. 2-3 minutes in the summer. 4-5 minutes idle in the winter (or more.)

All you're doing by "warming up" your car is wasting gas. Read most owners manuals and it tells you to start the vehicle, wait 10-15 seconds, and off you go. Keep it under 3,000 RPM until you reach operating temp.

Stock: start and go. Reason? You don't have a choke or carburetor anymore, Eleanor. The engine will get up to temp faster and won't get things sooty from extended idling.

My configuration: start, short warm up, keep it under 2500 RPM until oil is up to operating temp. Reason? High performance valve springs don't like cold, and I don't need a broken valve spring.

I start mine, do a few things inside the car like seat belt, radio, widows....then off i go. so maybe a minute.

Ha Ha. That's the problem. I go over 3,000 rpm routinely just after exiting my neighborhood entrance.

Besides, if wasting gas was a concern, I wouldnt be driving a 430 hp, SS.

This is exactly what I've been doing since I had the cam put in last year. It's hard for me to keep it under 2500 when I get in the traffic a few blocks from home, so I let it warm up in the driveway a bit longer when it's cold outside.
